This is the first time I partecipate to pyweek, but I think I had a good idea, a bit complicated, but I home I will manage to finish the game. Today I started late to code my game, so it wasn't a great beginning.

Encaged Tower - Starting point

I usually start my Pyweeks having trouble to find a decent idea, but this time I might have something. Unfortunately, I think I have distanced a bit from the theme and I'm not sure how to integrate it back to the game without making it feel like it was tacked in. I mean, the idea has to do with the theme, but it's not very clear. I hope you don't mind much.
Anyway, this time I'm going down a different road. I usually like to play around with mechanics, but, if I don't change my mind as I have done a few times before, this time I'm making a game focused on story. And, well, I have no skill in designing good stories. So watch me crash and burn. :)
As usual, don't expect something traditional from me. :)

Prism Break - First evening

We came up with a decent idea pretty fast, even though Caught wasn't exactly our favorite choice. We managed to setup a git repo and create an editor with a few simple functions. Tomorrow we should have a finished editor and the basics of moving around in the world.
Mortimer the Lepidopterist - Our intrepid hero
Posted by Cosmologicon on 2010/08/22 03:52
Well, I wanted to upload something on the first night, so here it is. I didn't want to make the same mistake I've made in the past, of using placeholder art for the main character and only replacing it at the last minute. So, I started with the main character this time. Also, I have no idea where I'm going with this game, so killing a couple hours with Gimp seemed like the way to go.
As you can tell, this is going to be a highly intense, thrilling, action-packed game!

Why is it that nobody has successfully bridged the genre's of action packed first person shooter and Japanese ren-ai dating simulator?
or have they?
or have they?

Hazard - A Change of Plans - Panda3D's Performance Just Not Cutting It
Posted by Akake on 2010/08/19 13:56
After spending a few days trying to wring decent performance out of a game, I've decided once and for all that Panda3D just isn't going to work out on my netbook. Since I lack a Real Computer, that sinks it for me.
I'm really irritated with myself. I wanted to do something big and cool, but now I don't know.
I'll... Post again when I've got a clear idea.
Hate it when I get really braggy about something without fully testing it. ._.

Hazard - Searching for an Identity
Posted by Akake on 2010/08/19 00:39
I've been spending the past few years trying to form a real identity for myself. Trying to figure out a consistent way to live my life and do what I do.
I've tried art, I've tried sciene, I've tried programming. I've tried being a minimalist, I've tried being ecologically-minded, I've tried being retro.
I've been trying to find some underlying method, some underlying idea I can apply to my life. Is this futile? Should I be doing this? Is there any hope to this?
I... I really need advice. I know this isn't really the place for it, but I've got very few other places to go and they wouldn't be friendly to this kind of personal issue.
I'm really sorry if this bothers anyone, but I need some direction on how to handle this feeling.

Birgus Latro - Leaning towards "election" but for all of the wrong reasons...

There is a dark side of me that thinks it may actually be kind of neat to create a turn-based tactical gerrymandering game.
It's better than Federal Income Tax Hero, I suppose.
