August 2010 challenge: “Caught”

Secret Agent Dude Escapes - Rough start...

Posted by donal.h on 2010/08/23 02:42

I have written a LOT of code today, accomplished a lot, and you'd think that would make me happy and mean that I was off to a fantastic start. But there was a slight problem...

All that code was complete unrelated to PyWeek (it wasn't even python. it was ... [gasp]... php). I have spend the first Sunday and the only entire weekend day of pyweek working on work.

I have to admit, I did attempt to get hg-git to work with TortoiseHg, but I failed completely. It looks like I'm going to be using a local hg repos when I'm in Window and then when I flip over into Linux to play test, I'll probably push from there (since hg-git works just fine and dandy there).

I have had some good PyWeek progress though. I have a great idea and I just hope that I can pull it off.

Shackled Stones - We're making good progress.

Posted by ikanreed on 2010/08/23 02:31

Physics is apparently coming along nicely, we've got some music and sound effects and our tile and sprite image library for pyweek 11 has ballooned to several hundred entries(I'm still stunned by this).

Additionally, the level editor looks nice this time.

-blank- - End day 1

Well, here is our progress for now. The GUI is basically done (need menus - main, drop down, right-click) but that is a simple addition.
Also in is networking via Twisted. Never thought I'd say it, but Twisted actually made it really simple, so we should be good to go, we'll see though lol.

Aerocapture - "Planning Room" draft

I have a (very) small amount of physics code done and thought I should mock up the gui to work out what I would need to put in and what I will need out of the simulation.

Voices Under Water - Not a sausage

Posted by safe on 2010/08/22 23:34

So here we are at the end of day one and not a sausage of code has been written.  Until about 15 minutes ago I didn't have any ideas about what to write either but that has since changed.  I plan to mull over and sleep on new found ideas.  I'll post my progress here when both said ideas and said progress cease to be embarrassing!

Escape from Wherever - Day 1

Posted by Myran on 2010/08/22 23:28

Okay, so after the first day I pretty much just managed to get up some rendering and movement code. I'm starting to get a hang of Python and PyGame now, although I could really use a decent editor with auto-complete.
My art is from Assemblee: Part 1, hopefully that doesn't break the rules (I don't think it should, the art is freely available under CC-attribution and has been up for more than 30 days)

Suspended Sentence - Day 1

Posted by drnlm on 2010/08/22 21:28

Most of the day was taken up with brainstorming a game idea. While we basically settled on an adventure'ish type game fairly early, settling on a basic premise and rough outline of plot took a lot longer, Despite several team members having caught colds in the week before pyweek, we opted not make a disease based game. We now all do have a rough idea of the basic shape of the game, so work can proceed.

Codewise, we're some way into the basic framework support needed to manage the interface, and, so far, this seems to be shaping up nicely. We've also started work on the art, although, as the game idea is currently somewhat art heavy, we may need to plan this better.

Overall a promising start, but, this does feel like a game idea that could run away from us, so we'll need to keep focused during the week.

Unnamed rpg - It starts

Posted by saluk on 2010/08/22 19:25

So my game currently revolves around you being a soldier POW "caught" by the opposing army. Is that reaching too much, or does it match the theme well enough? I have other ideas but they are all pretty much variations on this theme...

Another idea I had was to make the player character "caught" between both sides of the war. Not quite sure how to pull that off.

Anyway it's looking to be some sort of rpg of sorts so far.
