March 2008 challenge: “Robot”

Tale about a robot everyone should own - Gameplay prototype done

Posted by phren on 2008/03/31 22:11

Made a small proto testing out the basic movement of the robot in our game (and testing pygame sprites and python in general since it's the first python project I've ever done... :))

So far it looks like the movement is nice enough to make a game about, let's hope my teammate agrees. :D

Awesome Block Game 4 - Everyone's changing their plans.

I blame the theme. Well, not really. I've switched plans twice so far. Who else has changed plans?

Super Street Fighter 10 Turbo Edition - First Diary Entry

Posted by saluk on 2008/03/31 20:59

Hello fellow competitors, welcome to Century of a Fruitbat's first official diary entry, chronicaling the amazing journey we* all have been on the past few days. Our plans began very modestly, we were going to develop the most awesome robot-themed game ever conceived. As development began, and the beauty of pyglet, talent of our artists**, skills of our programmers*** and quality of our writer's**** storyline, we have gotten a bit more ambitious.

Here is a screenshot of the current progress, most of the coolness has been edited out***** so as not to spoil it for eventual players.

*We meaning me, my usual help has left on a cruise, the stinkler.
**Artist meaning me, I am doing all of the art this time around
***I am also the only programmer
****You guessed it, I am also the writer. And as for a story, there really isn't much to it. Bad guy is bad, kill him. But then you didn't really kill him, so you get to kill him again. And again. And again!!!
*****Actually the coolness has not been added yet, still waiting for it to materialise. Although I guess the fluid arm rotation for attacking is somewhat cool. It should be cool considering all my time has been spent on that.

Hope you enjoy :)

Ghetto VIking: The prophecy - Skating robot horror

Posted by j-1 on 2008/03/31 20:10

After two days of programming, suddenly a horrible thought crossed my mind: What if we do not make it in time? What if we break the code when it needs to be uploaded? Why are we putting ourselves through with this?

After much contemplation, I present to you Ghetto Viking: Skating Robot Horror!
Check it out with

svn checkout http://ghettovikingprophecy.googlecode.com/svn/branches/skating-robot-horror skating-robot-horror-read-only

Now for something completely different:
These are Rkeys suggestions for an evil robot capable of starting World War 5:

We expect it to develop into something more sinister, though. By itself. Beyond our control. You know how it works.

Armchair Armada - I'm still sick ... and it's snowing.

Posted by ArmchairArmada on 2008/03/31 19:50

Another day down the drain. I feel worse than before, which is a shame because I was looking forward to PyWeek for a long time.

Also, I thought it was suppose to be spring. You would never know it if you looked out my window. We still have three feet of snow on most non-road surfaces, there's a fifteen foot tall mountain of snow from when they plowed, and it's snowing again! Why can the rest of the U.S. have spring and not us?

CQ Robot - Starting day 2

Posted by Trobadour on 2008/03/31 18:15

I decided to make a game half part "robot needs to find the maze's exit" and half part "collect falling command balls".

The command balls are of different type (move forward, left, right,...) and are attached to the robots command queue if the player catches them. The command queue is the robots input to go through the maze.

So far so good. Today i'm going to finish the ball collecting part and begin with the maze stuff. Maybe there will be a screenshot with great programmer's art :)

RoboCute - RoboCute

Posted by kfields on 2008/03/31 18:08

After four hours of trying to make my own tiles I gave in and used Danc's. In the process I may have bit off more than I can chew since now it's looking like RPG or something! It sure tastes good though! Once I get the engine going good I'll add some Robots and hopefully my own tiles. --> RoboCute Blog (p.s. you guys are making me jealous! wait till next PyWeek!)
