PyWeek 31 challenge: “Cops”

Wrobers Grab n' Run - Diary update #4: Packaging and Submitting the Game

Posted by Phantasma on 2021/04/04 04:55

I managed to get the whole game done with about 25 mins left before the challenge was finished. Spent the good few hours trying to figure out or remember how I packaged my game with PyInstaller...I hope I packaged this properly.

In any rate I need a mental break after this one. If anything I made sure the scope was as small as possible as I mentioned in the very beginning. This is the result. Good luck to everyone else who participated when the judging commences.

Defective: Dick Driver - What a week

Posted by Gnabergasher on 2021/04/04 01:47

First and foremost, congratulations to all who made it through the week, it was quite the experience.

This was my first jam and I assure you it will not be my last.  I feel like I just went through an accelerated boot camp.  Without ursina this game would not exist, so I must shout them out first.

I also need to thank my team for tolerating me through the week.  Without them I would not have even had an idea.  It was very fun, and in the COVID times it is nice to meet new people beyond the standard chat room (though I do love the Pydis chat rooms). Hopefully we can make another entry for another week.

I hope you all enjoy the game.  If you catch a bug, let me know.  I might just keep this one alive.

Protect the Pond! Quack the Case! - Dynamic music, and procedural duck people!

Posted by lemon on 2021/04/04 01:10

We now have a feature in the game for dynamic music. The music changes as the toxicity level of the overworld changes. The more toxic it gets, the more instruments play in the background!

We also have (mostly) working buttons, as well as lots of nice assets for procedural man-duck generation, but we failed to actually get the man-duckies onto the screen before the deadline.

Here's how the procedurally generated duck people look:

corcle - after the submission

Posted by catornot on 2021/04/04 01:08

I just submitted my game and I am sad that I could complete everything in time because went outside and when arriving at home I saw that there were only 10 minutes so I made an executable and submitted the game. I will try add more stuff and levels for my icth.io release of the game.

Halt! - Halt!: Done

Posted by Tee on 2021/04/04 00:44

I don't have a good track record with strategy games but I'm satisfied with how this one turned out. It's a card-based game where the goal is to figure out who is the killer, and your cards are investigative actions. It has some light deck-building mechanics but in the end it turned out that adding cards isn't very helpful (ah well). There are three different "characters" that serve as different decks, and I tried to make them play differently. It's supposed to be set in the Victorian era but I didn't have time to add anything in particular that indicates that (besides the old-timey color scheme).

Unfortunately I didn't have time to add in-game rules; you'll have to be a bit patient and read the README.txt. The game isn't too complicated once you understand how things work. I also don't expect the game to be very well balanced but it seems to be ok. Luck might be a bigger factor than I would like (technically you could win in turn one if you're lucky).

The implementation took me longer than I expected (especially all the interface), and I had to make it hacky at some parts to finish in time, so I'm not surprised if there are bugs. Post here if you find issues or if you're confused about anything in the game.

If you're looking for a challenge, try to be a good guy and not arrest any innocent people. :)
