March 2019 challenge: “6”

Snowcrafter - Game uploaded!

Posted by Cosmologicon on 2019/03/31 01:51

Download from the project page.

If you catch any bugs before the upload deadline, please let me know here!

EDIT: v2 uploaded with more info in the README, support for numpy version < 1.12, a more helpful error on server connect failure. v1 should still work fine as long as your numpy is up to date.

Cultivate - Did YOU get the lemon? 🍋

Posted by ste.pool on 2019/03/31 01:07

Wow! PyWeek has come to a close already! Talk about a frantic last minute debugging session. We think everything still works 🤞

So for Davy, Noelle and I, our second time round was a bit less confusing: We got a much better handle on Pygame and sprites. It was Ed and Glen's first PyWeek and they probably enjoyed it.

We took on a much bigger project compared to Destination: Irrelevant from PyWeek 26. Cultivate was... ambitious, but we got really far. We spent a lot more time in the planning phase of this game, and our team was larger, so that was good in a lot of ways, but we spent a lot of time resolving merge conflicts. 433 commits, and 83 pull requests by 5 devs in 7 days makes for some interesting code "review". (And according to sloc: 4022 lines of code which is 10 person months! and would cost $116,495 to make)

Favourite Issue = "rooftops disappearing at inappropriate times"

Favourite PR title = "Fix lemonade task detection"

Favourite fruit = "Lemon"

We are very proud of the game, and we really hope that other people find it fun and funny. One of us spent quite some time intensely researching some specialist knowledge, that you'll have to play the game to find out about - no spoilers here.

There were some things that we wished we could have gotten to.

 - sprites move too quickly, or too slowly depending on platform.

 - more responsive conversations from NPCs.

 - a final score

That's all, already looking forward to judging. And pyweek 28.

K, thanks. Byeeeeeeeee! (In joke. Play the game.)

6-Crates - Possibly last diary entry 6-7

Posted by Phantasma on 2019/03/30 20:09

My game is mostly done. But Now I'm getting stressed out because I have no experience is submitting a game and I've never really used GitHub before. From what I'm seeing There's no clear guideline to how to submit your game. If there is then somehow I'm not seeing it.

Less than 4 hours left and I'm about to have a headache soon.

Silly Number Song Game - First to Last

Posted by wezu on 2019/03/30 19:07

So this is my first and only diary entry for this PyWeek. I wanted to make my game on the 6th day to fit the theme, but that didn't work because of being lazy. The game is small and silly, but the theme is also small and silly, so don't blame me, blame whoever voted on '6' (I sure didn't - but then again I didn't vote at all this time). Have fun playing, don't take this too seriously.

Sixth Gear - Final Day

Posted by LeopardShark on 2019/03/30 08:43

The game is much closer to being finished now. The progression round the track has been added, as well as more balanced physics. The menus are now partially implemented, and there is a timer. Another change is that the view now pans depending on the car's velocity, which looks quite nice. Finishing the menus and adding a score saving system is the main priority now, as well as having some better tracks. I also added a nice speed- and rev-ometer, which I'd quite like to have changeable units for.

I think this PyWeek is going alright, considering the shaky start; hopefully I don't notice some horrible oversight while packaging on Sunday morning, as is typical!

Six Days till Dawn - The End-Finale

Posted by chrisyan2000 on 2019/03/30 06:47

Finished working on the audios and textures!

Going to use the last day to package and write an introduction for this game!

Btw: I actually matched the beat of the background music and the player's walking frames.

FacilityVI - Day 7 morning

Posted by yarolig on 2019/03/30 06:20

Good morning.

I made a kind of game engine. Not sure if it is funny. You can do things but there is no goal. There is little ways to do storytelling. I have no time to implement a plot I imagined.

I going to do porting and packaging at the night.
