March 2008 challenge: “Robot”
Awesome Block Game 4 - Evilll robots!
Posted by eugman on 2008/04/03 02:13
Click the link for the full version. These are my evil robots. I might use a mix of pixel art and block art but I wanted to test out the sprites and all it took was adding two lines and stealing/modifying a function from the chimp tutorial.
I'm tempted to just throw in 10 other types of powerups and call it a game but I have a feeling I should try for something grander.
EDIT: I'm not very good with musagi so if anyone would like to donate some music for my game I might use it.

Even Robots have Bad Dreams - The world is conspiring against me
Posted by Tee on 2008/04/02 22:29
I thought I'd have some free time today, but I wasn't even able to touch the game today due to an unexpected problem. Sometimes I think the world is conspiring against me not to do Pyweek; so far I have only had one day. Therefore, there has been a change of plans.
1. Take over the world.
2. Finish Pyweek.
Now, seriously, tomorrow it's unlikely that I have much time, so I have only Friday and 3/4ths of Saturday left (if I manage to upload at the last minute, with servers down and all), and I still have a few things to do on these two days that unfortunately can't be postponed. So I've decided to scrap half my idea and start over with something simpler, so I can at least finish something. Unfortunately that means scrapping 3/4th of my (one day) work so far, but I think it's necessary.
Oh well. At least I haven't given up. Yet. (And also I need to stop whining, but I suppose that's what diaries are for. :))

Robot Underground - Difficulties

Our team has been encountering an extremely severe problem: we keep getting distracted by playing our game and neglecting the huge amount of stuff we still have to add.
C.A.T.:B.O.T. - Cat Academy of Technology: Beyond ODS' Techdog - Day 4 - Half of PyWeek is over

So - where do we stand now?
I was able to create two new characters with simple animation (those of you who tested our PyWeek 4 Entry might already know those two fellows). Also I generated a lot of levels today (about 17) and I will try to complete up to 13 additional levels until before naptime ;o)
Serval improved level loading, items in the interface and also added some new things to the interface. The game looks quite good now, but sadly up to now we just did limited tests on gameplay - so we will need to devote some hours in the future for testing the game to it's heart [I have the fair that the game might be too complex in it's kind)...
Left ToDo's for the rest of this week:
Art:
- Intro-Screen
- various images in various sizes (still there, maybe I do it tomorrow - I should work on it on Friday)
- help-screen(s)
- Messageboxes for Tutorial & Story
Code:
- Implementing Splash-Screen with functions
- Implementing Feedback-Console
- Defining/Creating Routine for Level Condition Checking
- some smaller issues (polishing)
Other:
- README
- Writing Dialogues/Story
- Music (? - have to see how much time we have at the end)
- Sounds
- Some more Levels (have a good bunch, but some more would not hurt)
Fortunately, I am allowed to post a bigger image/screenshot this time, revealing some more of our upcoming PyWeek entry - unfortunately, I was not allowed to post the whole screenshot, but only a cut-out piece. ;(
So please enjoy!

Robot Toast - Meet Ninjabot!
Posted by Tresch on 2008/04/02 18:40
Meet Ninjabot!
finally got the run cycle worked out for our character. Took me way too long but I'm pretty satisfied with it. Lot of extra animation to do yet for his various motions, but this is the most involved, definitely. Dude is RUNNIN! Must be hungry. Get this guy some toast! |
MUA - 78 hours 48 minutes remaining

Added a bunch of weapon code and put rockets in the game. No firing delays yet, so you can get them to spew out pretty fast. Need to add explosion knockback and we should be good for things blowing up correctly.
Here is a new vid with pushing, melee damage, and mostly rockets.
