May 2012 challenge: “Mad Science”
The Method - The return of the DNF
Posted by shundread on 2012/05/12 23:24
It seems I'm making yet another DNF.
I spent too much time drawing and battling lousy bugs. There's no gameplay beyond a cutscene, and not even the cutscene is anything like I would like to have authored.

Richard James - Lab Escape final entry
Posted by RichardJames on 2012/05/12 22:57
My game is not complete. In fact it only allows you to move the player sprite around in a room with no collision detection.
Real world issues have hampered my efforts to complete the game. I will continue working on it until it is complete.
Here is the README for the game

M.A.D. Science - The End, No game!
Posted by BlueDragon on 2012/05/12 22:49
I have to give up, the game..is not a game :)
The concept isn't fun enough as it is... too bad because the "swarm" of robots looked nice; maybe it'll work better next time.

Myskomannen, the card game - Final submission

Hey! I made it.
It is highly unlikely that anyone will enjoy this game, BUT, I did finish this time around!

Return Of The Daft Spaniels - Day Seven - Meanie Blast Goal Met
Posted by daftspaniel on 2012/05/12 21:39
What over already? :-) Well, it's been a blast. A full post-mortem will done later. Today was a sunny Scottish day so I was outside into the evening cutting well into my time. Some 'nice to haves' didn't make it. Will upload tomorrow when more awake :-) All the best to those coding up until the deadline.
Fun with Color Streams - "Amusing Toy" status achieved
Posted by bjorn on 2012/05/12 21:30
I like the concept my wife and I came up with for an entry this year; it's actually *almost* simple enough to tackle without a team in a week (given time constraints imposed by children and job). The idea is you have some sort of colored light which you place devices in the path of to redirect, combine, or attenuate. The goal being to hit one or more targets with a specific color.
As we approach the finish, I've got the redirection, attenuation, and combination mechanics all ironed out I think, which makes it rather amusing to play with; given three colorstreams I can now mix just about any color I want. That puts it firmly in the "amusing toy" category.
I'd like to add targets so that you can "win" a level, and have multiple levels, but that's almost sure not to make it in before the deadline. Shame, that would make it an actual game. Maybe I'll at least get a target in.
the code (all roughly 400 lines of it) is on github:
https://github.com/bjornicus/pyweek14
the "Toy" tag corresponds to the state as of this post. Maybe I'll upload it as a preliminary final entry.
I'm pretty happy that I actually managed to get something this far as a (mostly) solo project this time.

Master47 - Last hours...
Posted by Master47 on 2012/05/12 21:25
2 hours and 38 minutes to go.
Okay, I've managed to add a menu. Even the highscore is being displayed at the end of a game round.
Also I've managed to produce a short jungle track. It is a little to short ( roughly 22 seconds ), which means that I might use the time still left to work on it some more.
By the way: Due to rushing on the last 1 - 2 days, my programming looks very horrible and isn't very well organized at all.
Many things related to programming could have been implemented easier, I guess.

m. a. d. - I finished a game
Posted by Ernie on 2012/05/12 20:20
Today i coded a very little game. I turned down two other ideas and did something completely different due to lacking motivation. Bugs and issues please in the comments below.
(Hopefully) i will write an in depth entry later.

Mechanism - Mechanism: Finis
Posted by mespringfield on 2012/05/12 19:53
I've uploaded a final submission for Mechanism. Hopefully, it runs well for everyone who tries it. I got frame rates of 50-60 fps on two different Windows 7 machines and a MacBook Pro, but when I tried it on an older iBook G4 it slowed to a crawl (~10 fps).
The game still could use a lot of work (texturing, lighting, sound, improved performance, etc). I'm planning to continue working on the game over the next few weeks/months, as there are many other features I'd like to add: lasers, conveyor beams, hunter robots, power-ups to collect, and lots of other types of devices...
I'm fried - I'm gonna go rest now. I look forward to playing everyone's games.

The Fabulous Laboratory of Dr. Goldeinstein - Day 4 - 8 hours to Deadline
Posted by rodrigomotta on 2012/05/12 19:50
8 hours to the deadline, we finish all scene animations and characters animations, all interface items and two original tracks. The sound effects we pick in freesounds.org. The artists were to rest and the game designer has prepared a use description of all assets. Now we pray for our programmer is able to finalize everything.
