Posted by scav on 2008/09/14 08:48

I registered 6 days after the contest started, but I got a one-day game written and uploaded in plenty of time. Unfortunately I am not in the entries list. The game is here

Stringrolled - Resolution change

Posted by logicow on 2008/09/14 05:53

Bah, I accidentally uploaded a version with the resolution set to 1280x800.
But I'm going to leave it that way :P

You can change the resolution at the very top of graph.py.
Multiples of 320x200 work best.

Fishing Frenzy! - The mad dash...

Posted by caseman on 2008/09/14 05:07

Fishing frenzy really started to take shape in the wee hours this morning, but there were still lots of loose ends, for example: no way to win or lose, no score, just some fish and our humble hero (who at least showed his face today for the first time) with pole at the ready.

Everyone on the team really kicked it up a notch for the last few hours, seeing what needed doing and stepping up and banging it out. Kudos to Colin for a great swimming animation dynamic, and for stepping up at the last minute to get the timer implemented. Eric was our man of sound, without him the game would basically be silent, which it definitely is not! Harry did an outstanding job documenting and keeping the tasks straight, and documenting it all for posterity. I won't bother to thank myself, I already know how awesome I am! ;^)

Of course, some things were cut due to constraints, I plan to circle back around add some of these features in the future, and I know Harry is very eager to see some of these get picked up off the cutting room floor:

  • A proper title screen with menus
  • More underwater creatures (octopus, etc)
  • Floating seaweed that snags your line.
  • A visible sea floor with things like sea grass and coral
  • More varied debris, like oil drums, whiskey bottles, etc.
  • A tutorial system of some kind
  • Multiple levels of play
  • Massively multiplayer fishing freneticism (just seeing if your paying attention! ;^)

All in all I'm very happy to have participated (if perhaps a little delirious) and this game would never have existed had it not been for pyweek and Harry's urging to get a team together. Cheers and enjoy the game!

What's that? It has a song at the end?

Enjoy Kite Story, a game of satellites, string and helicopters. Windows and Mac OS X binaries available.

Stringrolled - Platform specific fixes

Posted by logicow on 2008/09/14 03:26

I added a few platform specific fixes which didn't occur on my side:

1) windows end of lines in pickle files
2) mixer requires a filename on some platform but accepts a file object on others
3) 0xFFFFFF is a color on some platforms but not on others
4) changed starting resolution from 1280x800 to 640x400
(I strongly encourage you to change it to 1280x800 or 1600x1000)

Snake - The RPG! - First Entry Available

Posted by myke on 2008/09/14 02:54

I've uploaded my "deadline" submission for the contest. This is the game as it was at deadline time. I plan to keep working on the game and will be posting another - and probably MUCH BETTER - entry before the final upload cutoff. If you want to play a MUCH BETTER version of this game, judge that one. If you're a stickler for rules, judge this one.

This version of the game is not yet fully complete. It's playable, you can attack monsters and pick up potions and win by finding the exit (hint: there can be more than one exit door per level). However you can't do anything with the potions you pick up.

Littlest Goddess - That's All Folks!

Posted by ZeroByte on 2008/09/14 01:57

Whew. Had a pretty good but exhausting PyWeek I reckon. Teaming up with gord has been the best thing evar. I'll update the entry page with the proper game description but for now please bear this sleep deprived description of the game.

The Littlest Goddess v1.0.1. If you managed to get v1.0, please get the patch for level five

You're Devika, a little goddess and you've lost your pet! Follow the trail of string left behind to find your pet.

It's a puzzle platformer so theres not much in the way of baddies, the challenge is in navigating the levels. All in all we feel we've produced a nice game, very visual and quite challenging. We still have some bugs running around but nothing too game breaking. We did put in a reset key though, just in case. We can has a normal life again!

Stringrolled - Some info

Posted by logicow on 2008/09/14 01:48

To use lower resolutions:
At the very top of graph.py, there are two lines defining the resolution used.
Multiples of 320x200 work well. (The editor works with multiples of 640x400)

I know I should have used a config file, but I didn't have the time. ;)

Whew. Some problems with the skellington but this should work.

All coding done by Joel Bouchard Lamontagne.
(so he's the one to blame for those horrible clipping issues :)

Thanks to :
-Reduz for the song
-Coda and madbrain for the last minute samples
-Windbladeicepuppy for the storyline pictures

String Defense - Waste of a Day

Posted by jabagawee on 2008/09/14 01:41

I give up perhaps the happiest day of my life in a long time to help my family move furniture around, and what do I get for it? I get locked out of my own house. Which sucks about twice as hard as it sounds because that was in the closing hours of PyWeek, and I had to walk quite a bit to my mom's workplace just to be babysat until my dad came back.

Seriously, I was really looking forward to the coding crunch of today, but I guess not. What the heck. Maybe next time...
