April 2007 challenge: “The only way is up”

Team Zankar II - The Revenge - First Break

Posted by atiaxi on 2007/04/01 17:02

I'm giving myself breaks when I hit certain milestones. Today's first break milestone was getting the tile engine working. Now, it is! Today's goal is to have the player be able to walk all over the map. This means loading the map from a file, designating certain areas as walk/don't walk, and centering the tilemap on the player.

Hello everyone! This is my first "real" thing i've done with python so I'm just trying to create a fun, simple game that I hope you will enjoy. :) So about the game idea. Basically player will be flying a balloon through the skies and perform all kinds of awesome activities, more info coming up as the project continues! ;)

Welcome to World Corporation - Pondering...

Posted by Tee on 2007/04/01 16:45

I'm going to keep my "most likely idea" under the table for a while, but it does have a similar concept to another idea I've seen in another post, yet it has a completely different focus. The problem with this idea, though, is that it'll take a while both to design and produce, so the odds aren't low that I won't finish this time. No code or art yet, I'm just fleshing out the idea.

Anyway, have fun everyone. :)

Dashman DX - Moving along nicely

Posted by buffi on 2007/04/01 16:08

Gotten some basic physics done. Looks like it will be a xjump kind of game, but less sucky with a heavy influence of different kinds of dashing. I've got a basic engine working ok, but need to incorporate a bunch of stuff.

The Villainy of Cat Food Inc. - Day 1

Posted by Zahmekoses on 2007/04/01 16:08

02:00 GMT+1 - Finally, the theme of Pyweek #4 was released... Yay! One of our Favourites! - After some brainstorming (and some hours of Guildwars PvP) we crawled into the bed...

13:00 GMT+1 - Gack! Woke up too late! I started my work on some neat graphics *cough*, while Serval started working on the code...

18:00 GMT+1 - I finished the first batch of graphics, Story is now complete. I watched Simpsons, washed the dishes and realized that she has finished the main menu - yay!.... We won't finish. ;)

Ninja on the Wall - game mechanics... tryout

Posted by simono on 2007/04/01 15:55

Did basic rope "physics"... doesn't feel to bad, this is already fun to play around with

Later I'll add shooting (that's what I reserved LMB for :-), so you get recoil and maybe add some monsters so shooting makes sense.

Things I'm pondering
  • destroyable obstacles (shoot the obstacle your opponent is on...hehe)
  • multiplayer - i like soldat, this could be a clone with grapple-hooks
  • make level bigger then screen - or not?

Phoenix is the cuttest Kitty in the world! - Day 1

Posted by ripter on 2007/04/01 14:43

The Contest started 8pm local time, and I stayed up untill 3am. We think we have an idea for the game. I just wanted to get a player on the screen with collision detection and gravity. Got that working, then when I tried to add jumping I broke everything :( Grr
I'll get to work a little while today, but I have to goto a leadership thing for school so thats going to eatup alot of my time. *sigh* maybe I'll upload a screen shot even though my graphic artist hasn't started yet.

Gizmo - Screen shots

I have decided on the game idea, it will be a submarine saving the people under water. The only way is up for sending the rescued people to safety. Done some drawing and playing with alpha surfaces. Here is where i got so far.

PyIcy Tower - Original game VS Cool Clone

What do you all think is better - An original complicated adventure game that may bit finish, or finish a bit ugly or a clone of a fun proven game with some of my own twists???
