September 2021 challenge: “Neverending”
Posted by MysteryCoder456 on 2021/09/20 07:00
I started working on my game a day after the challenge started. I had to look up how to use pygame again since i hadn't used it in a very long time, but I have faith i will be able to make something before the challenge ends.
I'm going to make an infinite side scrolling game featuring a swordsman looking to get to his arch nemesis. Little does he know that their journey is neverending.
Card Loop - Diary 1 - Getting Started (Late)

So... I ended up completely missing the day PyWeek started and today I realized it started yesterday.
However, I still want to do something and make a game so I got started when I could.
Today, I roughed out the idea for the game I wanted to make, a matching game, where the theme is implemented in it's theme. Right now I am thinking a dream loop thing, where the matches are similar to finding ones way through doors in order to escape.
Currently my program is only text, but it will create, shuffle, and print a table with pairs of "cards" and numbered columns and rows. Tomorrow I will try to add a second table that hides the "cards" and accepts user input to reveal them. I can do this.

Good progress today. Lots of learning occured and we got something resembling a basic game started. Moving background as a placeholder, a 2-frame sprite animation with the ability to turn left and right. A lot of time was spent troubleshooting the movement mechanisms of the character but it is good enoughto continue forward at this point. Tomorrow I can hopefully figure out collision mechanics. The Pygame discord has been great and some of the people there have given me some great constructive criticism and feedback. Hope I can find time this week to progess the project.

I decided I would make an roguelite deck builder themed around plants and fungus. Working title right now is Plants vs. Fungi. I've started doing some art for it and have a menu screen now.

Hi everyone!
I have made some pyweek games but still have no idea how I'm doing that. I got a plenty of time this week (as usual). Theme is good and should fit a variety of games. Got some ideas about my game but don't like it yet.
The game about unusual topology? Radio station that produces music stream?
Game about beer on the wall? Don't know how to play it but it is a good title!
Game about two killers in a time loop? Of course no but it will have some influence.
I do not want to spend a lot of time drawing assets. Especially in Blender...
Starting to remember what to do on the first day... It is a good time to reinvent UI, find a free font and listen a lot of free music.
