August 2009 challenge: “Feather”
fledgling - day #2, a fledgling
Posted by georgek on 2009/08/31 07:17
I'm signing off for the night, and with work tomorrow I won't be back until day #3, so here is an in-game mock-up. That little white thing there? Yes, that is our hero...
Got halfway through pixel collision code, and found Tristam MacDonald's very nice collision module released over at his repository some time ago, so why not, I'm running with that. Was very easy to include. So what's on the screen are three sprites, the player bird, the tree, and the ground, against the background. Going to try to do this without tiles. Next up is a camera to scroll a bit around the level, and then more to add to it.
Fan Mania - Sunday 30th August

First day we were only discussing about this theme, it was very difficult to find out anything, but finally we decided: We will make a game where the player has to get feather, with a help of the wind, to the goal...
team strong - featherinyourcap

kburd and I spent yesterday working on our new game:
featherinyourcap
Someone has built a windfarm directly in the flight path of
some common and rare birds. The birds, being creatures of
habit (aren't we all), are unable to alter their flight path to
avoid this potentially dangerous obstacle. It falls to you to
take up the blower/sucker to move them from their flight path
to safety. Having saved many birds, you will earn a feather in
your cap.

PyWeak - PyWeek #9 - Day 1
Posted by marciano on 2009/08/31 06:09
I spent the first day trying to get an interesting idea for the game. I'm not very sure if I found it.
My intention is to make a simple but funny 2D game. The graphics won't be very complex, since it's a solo entry and I'm not skilled in GFX stuff.
Since I'm a bit stuck, I decided to start with some conceptual art in order to figure out how the scenario of the game could be, and to kick off the development of the game.
By the way, I didn't mention my idea for the game: it's about a janitor that must keep clean the outside of a building. The birds will try to ruin his work (you know what birds do over buildings).
Well, hope I can finish a somewhat decent game in time.
Hark! I Impale Weasels! - Made a start

Wasn't too thrilled with Feather at first, but feather suggests quill, which suggests old-fashioned writing, which suggests Shakespeare. Obvious, really, when you think about it.
Last time I got criticised for not having any music, so this time I decided to start with the music. Found some nice Elizabethan-style midi files, and added a nifty system to Albow for managing a playlist and switching between songs smoothly.
All I need now is a game to go with it...

Chickencoop - chickencoop yard

This is managing and trading kind of game. You breed chickens. You have to buy them food,
feed them, then sell, but also protect.
For the first day I managed to prepare chickencoop yard. Now chickens are moving only.
Next - some controls.

Angel-G! - ANGEL-G!

Well, "Feather" was the last thing either of us expected to see, so we were at quite a loss for ideas this morning, but, well, Angel-G be shootin' oil, yo. This has to be one of the wackiest project premises I've ever gone through with, and the same likely goes for Arashi, too.
And that's all we're ready to say. The game's minimally playable, so we're taking a break 'til tomorrow.
Screenshots Wednesday-ish, once we've got enough fancy stuff to show off.

Wizburg - Mightier than what, now?
Posted by Cosmologicon on 2009/08/31 03:20
I spent longer on my Ludum Dare entry than I should have, and now I'm a day behind for PyWeek! For a game idea, I really wanted to take in a different direction. The only feather-related thing I could think of that I haven't seen mentioned is quill pens. And that makes me think "The pen is mightier than the sword". So how about this for a game: You're a statesman, armed only with your quill pen. And there's a bunch of guys attacking you with swords. And you have to lucubrate them into submission.
Okay okay, it's a work in progress....

Right - now to make a task list....
robonic - End first full day...

Well, good progress I think.
I only have a couple things I didn't get done:
The buffs, which will be like a 30 minute thing, so I'll just implement those ASAP tomorrow when I get the chance (in between work, hopefully).
And actually firing bullets out of your gun.
At the moment, I'm having a difficult time making the weapon buck back when you shoot.
Basically, I need to rotate the gun on the X axis, but when you rotate the view that axis changes - but the way rotations are in pyggel it doesn't automagically morph, so I need to figure out some way to handle it...
Oh well, pyweek is for challenges, right? :)
