August 2009 challenge: “Feather”
Pempenberd - Pempenberd Lives
Posted by ZeuglinRush on 2009/08/31 00:00
This is my first time entering a challenge like this. this ought to be interesting.
I spent most of this morning making sprites and coming up with a plan for the game. I decided that I wanted to take the strangest concept I could think of that was feather-themed.
Pempenberd will tell the story of Reginald Pempenberd, and his quest to become a pimp. Reginald has no idea what a pimp is, except for something about wide brim hats and maybe something to do with staying up really late. He's not really sure.
To get the sweetest hat he can, he goes off on a quest through the mean streets to find the mystical hatbirds, whose feathers are said to be completely awesome.
Basically, it's about an oblivious doof who runs around looking very suspicious and bothering birds.
A sprite sheet. the rows:
Reginald walking
Reginald yawning
Reginald jumping up and falling
Reginald blinking
Police walking
Police shaking stick
Classy Lady walking
Boof
The hatbirds. They will start off in an egg, which you do something to. Then they flip out and launch valuable feathers all over the place.

Grabber Giver Fixer Feather Plucker - Is it a game yet?

We have stats and interaction. Just a little bit of work to make a big impact. Our game idea is really working for the timeframe so far.
Catch those feathers! - Started :)
Posted by Yangea on 2009/08/30 23:01
Hello everyone. So, I've started working on my new project. My ideas are the following:
1. The player has to collected different feathers of birds. To collect them, the player has to use his reading-glasses(?)
2. This will be done by zooming in and then checking for any feathers.
Well, so far that's it. I've already started making a simple map for the game to walk arround.
I still have to do a lot of work, that's why I stop talking now :)

High Tech Low Life - ideas? egyption mythology/afterlife.
Posted by bencoder on 2009/08/30 22:32
I've just started a new job and i'm going to have very little time this pyweek. My first idea theme is going to be based around Egyptian mythology (access to the afterlife is based on the weight of your soul compared to a feather)
I can't really think of a game around that, but interesting game play might come out of it... you have to be nice to people to keep the weight of your soul low while also staying alive... i'm not sure, no good ideas even for a gameplay style. Bank holiday monday tommorow, hopefully i'll wake up with an interesting idea.

So I've got quite a few things out today. Although I didn't have much time to work on coding, actually, but at least I worked a bit more on the rhough concept and put it all on the paper (or the important bits of it).
The story is about a girl named Nozomi (which means "wish/hope"), who has a dream about a feather. She can't figure out why she keeps watching that dream every night, until an angel appears and asks for help. She then has to make her way through the sky (in her dreams) to save the angel, in a Alice-like world.
To pass one level you'll need to activate the star-switches in the right order. Every switch has a number and an math operation related to it, and the goal is to create a math expression that yields the main gate value, just like in the "24" game.
Of course Nozomi won't just go there and activate the switches as if nothing, she has to avoid the Lily Bugs, since her dreams run on Windows. As she can't kill the bugs (for now) you'll have to sneak through them to activate the switches.
So, it's basically it. I sort of finished the map module and started working on the sprite module. I also did some basic concept arts, but most likely I'll just end up using free image sprites, since sprite art tooks so damn much time.
Here's a concept for the angel girl. Most probably I'll use it for the main menu screen, if I have the time to color it until then D:
Now I'll make some coffee and back to work on the sprite module :D I shall post a screenshot tomorrow if everything goes fine (hopefully).

Fox Assault - Day 1
Posted by drnlm on 2009/08/30 21:16
Overall, good progress for the day.
Some initial brainstorming about ideas and concepts led us to a SimCity'ish chicken farm with guns, which will hopefully be both silly and entertaining. Much of the initial grubnt work has been done as well, so we have enough of a base to build from, and several things that can now be considered independently, which reduces the communication overhead for the next few days.
So, so far, so good.

NoTeamImplemented(Yet) - Day 01

Today I started to implement the physics of the game. There is a lot of stuff that has to be done in to less time.

Hilarious progress. And look! One of the sinister ducks has *you* riding on it:
fledgling - day #1, the idea
Posted by georgek on 2009/08/30 20:49
We'll see how this goes. One of my goals with this entry is to add more content and make it less abstract than I did in the last couple of compos. This might be difficult, as I can't draw.
fledgling is a game about a baby bird that doesn't yet have its feathers.
Pillow Factory - Game Concept Decided!
Posted by parahunter on 2009/08/30 20:03
Okay we have decided to make a game that takes place in a pillow factory. The objective is to get feathers created from a machine trough the level and to the fantastic Pillow-O-Matic, another machine that creates pillows! To succeed in doing this the player has to place fans, conveyor belts and other objects in the level. Other objects in the level will either block the feathers path, move them in a certain direction or destroy them!
