Balloon Escape - Yes! Done and uploaded on time!
Posted by xorbit on 2007/04/08 00:55
Yikes, with only 45 minutes to go the server seemed about ready to croak. It took me 15 minutes and multiple tries to get my entry uploaded. I was so relieved when it finally got through! Didn't want to see a week of hard work and lost sleep go to waste.
I am happy with the final polish of my entry. I didn't get any sound effects or music into it but that is about the only thing missing. I had put alot of extra stuff in my code to make it possible to resize the window and rescale everyhting on the fly, but in the end I couldn't get all of it to work correctly and had to resort to making a fixed size window. Oh well, lesson learned for next time.
I also wish I could have spent some more time on finetuning the difficulty parameters. I think the two highest levels are just about impossible to win now. If anyone makes it to the top at the highest difficulty level, I sure would like to hear about it. :-)
Congratulations to everyone who managed to crank out something working in a week, I look forward to playing your entries!

PROBE - T minus 33 minutes, switching to auto launch sequence
Posted by gcewing on 2007/04/08 00:24
I'm quite pleased with what I've been able to accomplish. Almost all the elements of my initial vision are there, at least in rudimentary form. Mostly all it needs now is some expansion and refinement.
The one major thing it's badly in need of is some aids for carrying out various orbital mechanics calculations. As it is, it's easy to spend a lot of time randomly trying out different launch parameters and not accomplishing much. That's not the way it's done in real life, and it shouldn't be like that in this game, either!

selsine 2.0 - Well PyWeek4 is done for me
Posted by selsine on 2007/04/07 22:28
Well that's it for me my (non) game is finished. I wanted to do so much more with it but real world events like my job and my wife's birthday ended up getting in the way.
That and I spent way too much time wrestling with pyODE.
All in all this pyWeek was less fun for me then last pyWeek, since I spent more time this week being frustrated. But I think that I may have learnt more during this pyweek then I did last time so maybe that's a good thing.
One thing that this pyweek did for me is strengthen my resolve to get a nice simple sprite engine going and release it online. That way I will be able to reuse my code next pyweek, rather then spending all this time trying to reinvent the wheel.
By there are some really strong entries out there and I look forward to trying them out. I'm really amazed at what people can come up with in a week!
Especially since I've been unable to come close to creating an actual game!
Great job everyone, see you next week!
RopeSwing - Finished, kind of...

I really ran out of time on this one, mainly due to visiting family for Easter. Still, I'm pleased with what I managed to get done. Barring some last-minute kluges, my code was kept fairly neat and maintainable, which is something I often struggle with. And I learnt a lot from using PyODE for the first time.
Looking forward to playing everyone's entries now! Good luck!
