March 2006 challenge: “It runs on steam!”

CrazyIroning - Hello from a first-timer!

Posted by SimRex on 2006/03/09 17:40

Hello!

This is my first time in any kind of programming competition, but I've been dabbling with Pygame for quite a while now, and I'm a long-standing Python scripter from the Star Trek: Bridge Commander community.

For this competition, I'm going to be a one-man-band, doing everything from the coding to the art to the music and sound effects, which probably means I'm going to fail miserably, but at least I can't drag anyone else down with me!

Anyway, enough blathering from me until the competition starts properly, I think! ;)

The Olde Battleaxe - using php ... in PYweek?

Posted by philhassey on 2006/03/09 17:12

this might just be a dumb question, but my team is thinking it might be fun to make a pygame game that connects to a central server for some multi-player aspects.

would it be okay if the server app was php/mysql? all competitors would be able to play the game using only python, since nobody would have to install the server app. (although it would be available if someone wanted to see how it worked, etc...)

Steam of the Colossus! - Really nice hand-drawn textures

Posted by richard on 2006/03/09 05:26

Danc over at Lost Garden (you may know him from his Nintendo Innovation Strategy posting) recently posted 250 free hand-drawn textures he created a while back. They're so pretty!

It'd be cool to see them appearing in a game :)

Im' quite familiar with OpenGL and pygame. I would really like to be able to put in some animations in my game. I think soya would be great for this purpose but i dont' know how to use it yet.. i just hope ill' be able to get a grip of it before the start of the competetion.
