Magical Elemental EGGS! - Once more unto the breach: collision errors
Posted by Python Jedi on 2011/09/16 19:52
It's official, I hate making collision detection. I'm going to try and rewrite it for the 6th time this pyweek (yes, I've kept count) but not before uploading a demo. press "r" to respawn at the green portal thingy. press "z" to use the ability (air doesn't have one because making it caused this little catastrophe) I'll be back after cleaning up my code (turning Entity and Character into the Player class so that it's simpler to manage) and then fixing this problem.

Unmutate - Day 6: My siblings adore my game.
Posted by tnelsond on 2011/09/16 14:54
Well, it's day 6, progress has been slow, but my siblings (I have 9) have been begging to play my game. So here's a screenshot:

The black bar at the top shows the genotype of the currently selected creature.
I'm thinking that the game will become a puzzle/platformer where you have to breed certain creatures to pass certain parts of the level.
Because I don't believe in evolution, (This should be interesting right?) All the genetic information is there to begin with, but some of it are recessive traits or codominant. So different combinations of the genes produce different creatures. And when mutations do happen, they're all downhill mutations which essentially turn that gene off, which is not always a bad thing, but no genetic information is gained, the genes are just lost.
In the screenshot you can see a ball-like creature without legs, that is caused by a mutation on the leg genes, so the creature has lost the genetic information for legs, so it can't walk, but now it can bounce.

Not much done tonight. changes include:
- on maze mutation, teleport any mobs covered by fog, even ones in your party. If a mob is teleported, it will change into an enemy or vice versa
- maze mutation will change colour
- enemies will pause before chasing you
- fog flashing for a warning.

Alison In Wonderland - Alison in Wonderland - Day 6

Well things are finally back on track, but i still have a boatload of work to do, i still have few player mutations to think up and code, menus to create, an enemy to create, all the levels to create, and last but not least a new name needs to be though of because my game has change and this name no longer fits.
So overall tomorrow is going to be a busy day.
Afterthought: i should probably get some people to do some play testing for me tomorrow afternoon too, i think we are having guests i can rope into it.

Cross-breeding is implemented. Also added a few sound effects to spice things up a bit.
Still to do:
Still to do:
- Make the plants more interesting
- Try to make mutations slightly less lethal
- Give saved games a distinctive extension and magic number
