March 2008 challenge: “Robot”

HoleInTheHeadStudios-1.9 - Team Hiths looking for an artist

Posted by RB[0] on 2008/03/25 15:03

Team HITHS has lost quite a few of our members this time around, and we currently need a 3d modeler.

Currently the team consists of 2 or 3 programmers, a musician, a designer, and one pixel artist.
But, for what we have planned, pixel art won't work for all of it :)

if you are interested you can email me at roebros (at) gmail (dot) com, and I can show you what we have planned :)

Vandal Parts - Dancing?

Dances huh. If anyone makes anything remotely like a DDR game, I will be forced to leap through their screen and stab them.

RoboCute - Pyggles Live!!!

Posted by kfields on 2008/03/24 08:34

Here's a new warm up. I decided to translate an old favorite from JavaScript & DHTML to Python & Pyglet. It's called Pyggles! (Hey, I only learned Python two weeks ago, okay?)

Bot Builder 2000 - To include pyglet source or not?

Posted by bjorn on 2008/03/24 04:26

I suspect many people will be using pyglet this time around (we will be) so I'm debating whether or not pyglet should be included with our entry or if we can count on people already having installed, or being willing to install it. On the one hand, to include it in our source is only an extra 4MB and makes it extra easy for anyone to run our game, but on the other hand if a lot of other teams are using it then that's a big waste of bandwidth.

What is the preferred method for entries using pyglet?

PointyStick - Rules question: "released"?

Posted by malcolmt on 2008/03/23 06:24

This is going to sound nit-picky and I apologise for that. What is in the spirit of "released" for the purposes of the competition: is a library that has publically available source code repository, online documentation and has been around for a few years considered "released" and we can use the latest subversion code?

Background: it looks like this should be ok, since a few of the libraries linked to on the rules page are in this category (e.g. pyscumm) as well as code samples at pygame cookbook. I'm considering a browser-based UI for a game and want to use Django to get rid of the fuss of server -> browser interaction and to be able to supply a small webserver as part of the game download (therefore, no setup required). So everything's publically available and it's documented to the point that anybody could use it, but there hasn't been an official tarball made in 11 months.

Johnny saves the world - Ideas

Posted by roberto on 2008/03/22 23:17

I'm really excited about my second pyweek... while I can hardly wait for it to start, I'm also worried because the last pyweek was a complete lost my work -- I could hardly concentrate on my work, since I kept thinking about my game and how to implement all the ideas I still had to implement. :-)

This time I'm planning to do a 3D game, using pyglet... thought panda3d also looks interesting. I'd like to do something involving either robots or space ships, but let's see (in less than an hour!) what the possible themes will be first.

Anyway, good luck to us all! :)

Robosub - Searching for 3d environment

Posted by nikolajbaer on 2008/03/21 16:41

I am really excited about building a pyweek game in 3d this time. I have been hunting around for an ideally simple 3d engine.. lightweight and simple but still with decent features. So far the ideal interface I have found is sadly not python, but actionscript, in papervision 3d. One of the big issues is having a really easy way to get blender models into my scene. It is also important to easily manipulate a mesh while it is loaded. Anybody have any recommendations? Both pyogre and panda3d seem a bit heavy weight, but I am admittedly not so well versed in either.
