April 2007 challenge: “The only way is up”
Posted by atiaxi on 2007/04/01 00:23
This is my tentative title for my game. You start at the bottom of the Tower to Heaven to begin the trial of ascension. Once you've entered the tower, the only way... is up!

...worth the effort to you guys??
We were planning it, but it appears that multi-player games havent faired so well in the past, and if no-one really cares, then we'll save ourselves the trouble I think...
By multi-player I mean network, not same computer, multi-player.
So what is your preference,
A: multi-player
B: single-player
C: dont really care

Everybody refreshing so that they can get started on the announced theme the minute it's revealed.
I've already got 4 ideas that sort of work with this theme. I'm stepping away from the computer to let my thoughts come together.
My challenge for myself - come up with 3 workable game ideas (must fit the theme, must have some promise of being fun, must be possible within a week) before writing any code.
Fluffy Menace - THEME: The only way is up

All systems go!
You've chosen the theme and it is "The only way is up".
Good luck everyone, and newbies (and oldies ;) don't forget to read the HELP page!
And remember: "it's imposible to get near last if you make a working game that resembles the theme" (credit for wise words: eugman)
PROBE - Diary link newness strangity?

Why is it that sometimes my browser decides to display some of the links on the recent diary entries page as unvisited, when nothing seems to have changed since I looked there last?
It would be nice if something could be done to stop this from happening, as looking for unvisited links is a useful way for me to quickly see if there are any new diary entries to look at.

Hello people, only 9 hours to go till my first pyweek begins :)
But enough with the pleasantries, I have a bit of a problem with the skelington, as I don't like the way data folder is in a different tree from the game logic...I like it when the data is in a folder in the game lib, thus easier to reach. I know there is a data.load function, but it returns file descriptors which are useless and I'm afraid to edit it so that the mighty pyweek gods won't bash me...So can I just ignore this part of the skelington, or is it a MUST?

I'm working on my socket skills in the hope that we'll actually go multi-player this time :)
Anyone care to try this out and tell me what they think?
What works, what could be done better, what errors you got, etc.

Well, I'm getting ready before the competition starts. That is, preparing bookmark links in my browser for quick reference to tutorials and manuals, cleaning the table and preparing a pile of scratch paper for an area to plan on, and making a schedule for programming and testing the game i.e. (Must be finished with game on Friday for two days of testing...).
I'm doing all this in an attempt to allocate more time to things other than programming (i.e. eating and sleeping), as well as to pace myself, so that I won't find myself uploading the game at the last minute ;).

A little game we made for the pyweek warmup week. The game isn't finished yet and is lacking balance, but is otherwise playable.
Zombie Hunter.zip
Dependencies: python 2.4+, pygame 1.7+
We would appreciate if you report any errors, bugs and any other problem you encounter with the game.
Thank you for testing!!

I am stoked, I have been brain storming so good exercises to get my pygame back in the grove, I think if I just make something simple and small just to get me back into it I'll be ready for the week of pydoom!
