March 2010 challenge: “Wibbly-wobbly”
Wobble Tower - The End of Day One - Where I'm Going
Posted by Akake on 2010/03/28 20:13
Well, it's 4PM here, and unless I'm moved by some kind of heavenly force, I'm gonna call it a day.
I have some code done that doesn't do much as-is but will get me started tomorrow, as well as most of the artwork for the character. (Including a 21-frame hammering animation, the longest I've ever made)
In addition, I've got a super-simple model for movement in the game that will take (Hopefully) almost no time to put into code.
All it does is track the horizontal position and floor of each object. Since nothing moves through the air, this seems like it'd be ideal for what I'm doing.
Anyway... I'm ready to call day one over. I've got quite a bit done, and I'm ready to rest up and get back to it tomorrow.
Here's hoping...

Terraformancer - Progress after day one
Posted by Trobadour on 2010/03/28 19:29
Today i started my game Terraformancer, standing for terra forming by magic :)
It's a 2d strategy game where you help little people to reach goals by raising
and lowering segments of the land they walk on
You have no direct control over the people but can only set tasks that the
people will try to fullfil. You support them by changing the landscape to
protect them from danger like water and deadly animals or to help them reaching
specific places.
So the terrain is kind of wibbly-wobbly :)
So far i have a terrain that can be lowered or raised. All work in progress but a good start.

Full Fillment - the drunken master!

Wibbly wobbly was a very hard theme for me.. I had ideas for most of the other themes! I was hoping for Rose, so I could build a game in which you are a rose plant, and you have to use limited resource for growing roots (faster resources) spikes (defenses), leaves (to process resources) and in the end flowers (for beauty!) and your objective would be to defend from menaces like sheeps an parassites and to be beautifull so the gardener would fertilize and not chop you.
Anyway, I thought of wobbling for all the day, and since I only wobble when drunk, I decided to come up with a game in which you are drunk. It will be an action/fighting o beat'em up game a la Double Dragon or River City Ransom, but your main weapon will be a beer bottle, that you can use to beat enemies or to drink off of it. By drinking, you can increase you alchool level: the point is that you are not a good fighter, but you are dangerous when drunk!
Most of the game mechanics will be about controlling you momentum: being drunk, you will wobble a lot. You must time correctly with your wobbling to inflict the maximum damage. The more you are drunk, the more powerfull your hits will be when you time correctly, but timing will be more difficult, because your wobbling will be less regular and more random.
I have also planned a basic plot, but this isn't very important at the moment.
I'm actually looking for the best library to built this game with, maybe pyglet+rabbyt but still not sure. I will start drawing some sprites tonight, haven't decided the graphic style yet but it will be simple, this is a solo entry! Then I'll work on the engine, hoping to have it working in 3 days, and next, I'll create all the levels I can before saturday.
If I can find the time, I'll walk down the movie rental to see if I can find a copy of Jakie Chan's Drunken Master: this is definetly not a kung-fu game, but maybe I can find some inspiration.
Title not decided yet, I'll try to be original before settling for what you expect.

The Wobbling-House - theme surprise...
Posted by yoldi on 2010/03/28 17:50
The only theme I didn't want to see selected (Wibbly-Wobbly), the theme which was select xDDDD
My main reason in order not to want this theme were my english skills; I didn't understand very well the meaning of these words... but after reading some examples in the messages page of other people (thank you all :-) ), I think I have got over the first "shock" and I think I have reorganized my ideas again.
We will see the result in 1 week :-)

MimeMan - Story Idea
Posted by Evdude on 2010/03/28 16:00
Norman Boreman, the circus ringmaster, has suddenly and completely gone insane, with what appears to be mad boss disease. He dressed up as a mime, and started unicycling around, on the tightrope.
Norman's employees, angered by the lack of pay, are now out to get their boss. Fortunately for Norman, Bob the announcer has taken pity on his mad boss and is using his loudspeaker to help him out.
Wobble Tower - Some character art
Posted by Akake on 2010/03/28 15:43
I've got some base code in place, and am working on the artwork.
I've got a picture of my protagonist done, too:

He's holding the nail out because it gives you an idea where it'll go when you pound it in.
So, then, I just need to animate him! Yeah!

Mr. Wobbly's Great Escape - Day 1: Bailing out (probably)
Posted by ServalKatze on 2010/03/28 14:15
We've just moved to a new apartment and bought+built all of the furniture. We're really worn out so unless we get a great, simple(!) idea for wibbly-wobbly we won't make a game this time. Maybe next Pyweek. ;)
