March 2010 challenge: “Wibbly-wobbly”
Quick And Random - Stressful, but final is up
Posted by PrintStar on 2010/04/03 22:07
This afternoon was miserable trying to finish up the game. My last item on the todo list was to simply add sound, including in-game music. Well, making music isn't the easiest, but there's music in the game now. However, the whole afternoon, Audacity, which I was using simply to trim audio files, continued to crash during export under Ubuntu. It did no better under Fedora on my laptop either. Trying some other audio programs in a panic under GNU/Linux led to simply disappointment and, in one case, a complete system crash. This was not a pleasant way to end things.
Anyway, the game is up, and it's relatively fun and challenging. Thankfully, it isn't simply impossible to play. I'm happy with what was produced this week.

Maande - Final submission

We ended a few hours ago. It was a quite entertaining challenge and I can surely say that we have learned a lot during these days.
The game is fully playable, but still misses a few features, such as a highscore list. We tried really hard, but we did not manage to make a single .exe file for Windows.
The main goal was to create a simple, playable game with all the stuff (including graphics and music) made by ourselves. We did fulfil our own expectations and had fun doing it — that's the most important thing.
Maande is all about catching things into the basket which, as written in the main menu, wobbles a bit. :) Be aware of navy crosses, they devour your points tremendously.
Looking forward for your feedback...

Looks like we're not gonna finish this into something fun to play for this competition. Work got in the way and bad code resulting in demotivation. But the idea (from which you actually can't see much if anything in our entry) is neat so we probably keep working on it after this.
Personally I'm not happy with the art, but that's hopefully gonna change once I put more time in it.

Progress has been slow on this competition due to both of our team members being crazy busy. Also, I am unfamiliar with the libraries I am using (PyBox2D, Pyglet, and cocos2D). Here is a shot of the prototype I got working a couple of days ago, rendering using Box2D debug drawing.
Cheers!

Wibbly-Wobbly the Canine Screwdriver - Why programming levels is a bad idea
Posted by adrwen on 2010/04/03 20:22
Simply put, it takes forever. Today, I have produced 2 levels and one cutscene so far in about 10 hours, all of the levels were of the size 640,480 and don't take more than a minute to finish if you know how.
Bamboo Warrior - Steam

Running out of it. I feel completely knackered, but there's still much I need to do. The gameplay is far from smooth, and the AI is buggy. And there is only one level. But it's a lot more playable than it was this morning, somewhat faster, and a lot more polished. There's even a multiplayer mode.
Blob Job - Almost There!

Just a few minor tweaks and we will be ready to upload!
Backward Children - I actually made it..

So I finished my entry. You can check it out here. I've been sick most of this week and not been able to spend as much time as I wanted to and I guess it shows. But I think I got a fun little game going, even though it's the connection to Wibbly-wobbly is tenuous at best.
Hope you guys enjoy it, maybe even see if you can beat my high-score!

Hopefully I'll have enough time to get two more levels done, but I'm posting this now in case there's any feedback before the deadline.
