Granary production - Awesome theme

Posted by graner on 2009/04/26 09:13

Yay my favourite theme was voted and I have a game idea to go with it. My goal is to make a nice little game that i will FINISH properly. I have a rather busy week and that's why i think it's better to aim low and do it well :)

So far I've made a quick prototype of the game and I'm testing to make it fun.

As Yet Untitled Game In Which Cranky Old Man Hits Kids With Cane - We're in!

Posted by prag.Modul on 2009/04/26 08:59

Not much done yet. meowfish is working on some art assets, I'm creating a level editor. The hope is to be done with the game itself by friday so we can spend the weekend working on art and polish.

Panspermia - First night: got an idea

Posted by Cosmologicon on 2009/04/26 08:52

My game will be... well.... 8 years ago we would have called it a real-time strategy or god game. Today it would probably be called tower defense. I'm worried that this will be a common usage of this theme, so I was hesitant to go with it, but how can you say no to this little guy?

You can't really tell how cute he is, though, without seeing him scuppering around, so I uploaded my code so far. Here's the link. At least mine takes place on an actual lawn. Okay, an actual field. Okay, an actual forest understory. Close enough.

This game, the more I think about it, has a lot of similarities to my Pyweek 6 game: it's an RTS where you have to escape the planet before it's too late, and the story incorporates a classic sci-fi hypothesis. What can I say, I know what I like. This one should have much higher production value, though. But since I only know Pygame at this point, I may have to compromise. We'll see.

Leaving Home - Art Dump

Posted by biccy on 2009/04/26 05:26

Both Alex and I are currently busying with things, he, full time code monkey, me, lazy artist who has assignments due this week, were originally going to skip PyWeek but the calling was too strong and here we are once again. Although we plan only to spend one day working on our game.

Few hours in and here's some art I've whipped up. As you can see there is a lawn.

Since we're spending not much time on this I'm using Adobe flash again, I was thinking about trying a different art program but I don't have time to mess around.
There's extra detail into some parts but alas, you don't notice them.

The Flip Flop Phalanx - got a lawn.. now, what to do with it

Posted by nikolajbaer on 2009/04/26 01:41

ok, made a lawn texture, and can move around my lawn.. now.. who should not be on my lawn? the conventional game would be old man chasing kids off with the hose (hmm fun particle effects there). My last pyweek game kinda became dull because i tried to be innovative.. so maybe i should just stick to some tactile arcadeness here... (maybe i will get inspired to return to my strategy game idea of weeks ago.. but heh, we'll see).

real life calls..

Leaving Home - Artist in transit

Posted by alex on 2009/04/26 01:39

Hadn't planned to enter this time around, because I've started a new job that's taking all my time. But I'm feeling inspired, so it'll be a PyDay for me and Biccy. We sketched out a pretty interesting game idea on MSN this morning, I'm just waiting for her to arrive so we can flesh out the whole game design.

It'll all be finished by tonight, or bust!

cranberry sauce - There's no such thing as and uninteresting topic...

Posted by awong on 2009/04/25 11:59

Looking at the topics, a lethagic Hammer didn't see much to interest him. "I have no idea what to do with any of those topics." In fact, he was so unenthusiastic, he used a simple python snippet to make his choices :

import random
x = [1,2,3,4,5]
random.shuffle(x)
print x

By chance, he chose as #1, "Talin's Tower" (which, coincidentally, was awong's choice). I asked him, "Well, do you know what Tatlin's Tower is?" He didn't. "Do you know what scuppers are?" He didn't. "What does half a sovereign mean?" He guessed wrong."So what are are you going to do?" The Hammer didn't know? "Why don't you try Google," I suggested, trying to kickstart Hammer into action...

"Hmm, so it was a tower that the Communists wanted to build, I still don't know what to do about it"

"Well, let's talk about it" and I put on my James Burke cap on and started making connections...

...an hour later, the Hammer was raring to go. In fact, he went from the least enthusiasm to the most enthusiasm I've seen in any of the pygame challenges, We had found a game idea could encompass all of the topic ideas. It was a wild idea and we weren't sure if we could do it but were going to be a lot of fun to trying...

As I had told the Hammer before, everything is interesting if you look deep enough, you just need to be creative about it.
