September 2013 challenge: “Moon”

Moon Protection - pyweek17 - day 1

Posted by 5hassay on 2013/09/01 04:54

well, so far so good

got the repo up fairly easily with github, and eventually found a suitable license

we settled on a game idea pretty quick, something I think we're both cool with (pretty lucky that the "Moon" theme was chosen). Right now its pretty basic, but if we have time later on we'll try to make it more complicated. The basic code got up pretty quick. Getting into more specific code, which is fun

welp, its too late, brain dead. Continue tomorrow

Moon Protection - Its up!

Added a pretty much empty moon.py : gotta work on that later.

Orbit_test is up. Calculations seem fine. Thank multivariable calculus. (and Moore, but mostly that beard)

Aranara - Watching the movie

Posted by paulpaterson on 2013/09/01 03:51

Just rented the movie from iTunes and watching it again now. I watched it a while ago but wanted to watch it again to get some more ideas on how to apply the theme. I'm taking notes about the details, main thematic elements etc.

No Graphics - First Contact

Feeling a lot better now! Have a good general plan for both the engine and the storyline. Not complicated, but enough to make it interesting enough to play through. Going with a text adventure will knock me down on Production, but I just want to get a game done! I'll see what I can code/develop story in the next day or two.

Over and Out,

Journey to the Center of the Moon - I'm not crazy! Oh, maybe I am.

Posted by Cynerva on 2013/09/01 02:23

Sooo, last minute decision to enter this! Actually, the contest started a couple hours ago. Whoops.

I am working on this as part of a two person team. I'm Ava, and I'll be doing the programming, sound, and music. Ami may do some artwork and design (yay!) but mostly she'll be beating me up when I fail horribly to keep up with my workload. With any luck, I may come out of this a horrible bloody mess, but hopefully the game won't :D

So we have no idea what kind of game we're making yet. This is a great start!

No Graphics - Crazy Timing

"Moon"
Not the worst theme, but probably the worst week ever to compete. University applications open up this week, others have deadlines in a week or two, and plenty of homework as always.

Five minutes of brainstorming: Text adventure in abandoned moon base; similar story idea to Bungie's Marathon? Maybe add combat encounters with hostile security forces. Maybe go for something more like "hunt the wumpus"?

Not sure what's going to come out, but I might have a chance (of finishing), although it is my first text game. Ever.

Wish me luck!

Oh, Most Wonderful Of Nights! - Concept

This theme has inspired me to make a game about Princess Luna.

Will the pyweek community hate it? Will they slam me with arbitrary DQ votes? I have no idea! I hope they don't. I'm not going to breach any licensing and that's the only area covered in the compo rules.

Let's give it a shot. Should be fun!

Hoping for 12 Monkeys or The Fifth Element as I'm not sure what the other 3 possibilities are :p
