PyWeek - 57notebooks - feedback

The art is good, even with its naive MSpaint style. The stylised dialogue is fun.
The game is pretty unenjoyable. It is much too hard. The numbers can sit on top of one another, and it moves much too fast.
The story is not exactly gripping, but adds significantly to the game. I've had weird encounters in dodgy clubs. You could make the game much better simply by making the game much easier - just barely challenging - and developing the story more.

OK, so it ran. But then while trying to play (123123123123) it would freeze and I needed to "killall -9 python" to deal with it.

Had lots of fun with this one: it’s pretty random, but the art and sound were great, I liked all the characters. The rap mechanic was ok, but could have been a lot more interesting if it required a bit of rhythm (flow) to it: the order and timing felt like it was just randomly generated. Classical music, lol.

Interesting idea, I think it would have helped a lot if there was some feedback as to whether or not you're hitting the numbers - I wasn't ever sure if I was doing it right.

I really wanted to love this game. I love the quirky way it looks and sounds, but the randomness of the distance in between the keys rendered it almost unplayable. Flow in rap is all about the rhythm so the randomness felt really out of place. Not to mention the overlap of some of the keys. Would have worked better run on the bpm of the backing track. That said, again, I really love the way it looks and sounds. The weird euro-manga in ms-paint graphics style and the strange mumbling as you hit a key at the right time was very fun!

I can definitely appreciate the effort that went into it and there is a definitely a real game here, though the production doesn't look very well-polished; it's full of spelling errors and the audio recording is rather low quality. Better visual and auditory feedback on when I'm getting something wrong/right would have also helped. Nonetheless, nice work.

Interesting rhythm game with consistent aestetics. Need more feedback about whether the player is doing well or not throughout the level instead of just at the end.
I did manage to get to the ending the second time around.

Not bad. A couple of things would have made a huge difference. First is some sort of immediate feedback about whether I was hitting or missing. Second is some way to sync up the actions with the music, which I know is hard but it's kind of a big deal for rhythm games. Having said that, once I figured out that my key presses actually were making a difference, I found the controls pretty intuitive and I had some fun. And I really like your drawings and story.

Runs okay but there are a few issues which can only really be solved by gaining more experience in games development.
The idea was good and a great fit for the theme "Flow". The visual style was unique and the player's goal was clear. I had problems trying to actually gain points mostly because there's no animation and the audio isn't synchronised to the button presses - these things are needed to make this kind of idea work well.
A few bugs like flickering text, and the menus aren't very well organised made it a less enjoyable experience.
I think the problems would be fixed by just gaining more development experience - it's a good start and you'll need to continue to get better (e.g. I've been making games for 10 years).

I see how you managed to proceed with this art style since the last pyweek... It looks cool and all but still- you know. There are better ways for a music or beats game to work, this game mechanic is not one of them. But the creativity part is shown here.
Well, that first (violent) ending escalated more quickly than I antecipated. :) I can see that a lot of work has been put into this, with the story and art and everything. The overall style is pretty cool. The gameplay itself really needs to use some visual feedback to let the player know if they hit the button on time; I had no idea if I was doing the right thing or not. Also, the numbers start overlapping each other later on and you can't quite see what you need to do. But I had a good experience overall. Nice work.
