Is it okay to be drunk?

Other posters have mentioned caffeine. Is it okay to be drunk?

I don't want to encourage bad behaviour in my co-competitors, but perhaps stimulants and depressants play a necessary role in PyWeek.

What stage of the creative process is benefited by intoxication? Which part of the PyWeek requires absolute sobriety?

Hang on. Need to make more ice.

It does not matter how you produce your code. Personally though, I would not try to use alcohol to increase my performance.
This is going to be controversial, but I find myself to be less easily bored while intoxicated. You could maybe do something repetitive that needs to get done, like playtesting or level design. (And maybe your poorer reaction times would cause you to make your game easier, which is a good thing!) I got some sketches done for a Ludum Dare game while somewhat drunk.

I wouldn't use it to try to be more creative, though. If anything I think it would hurt the creative process.
If you're getting bored doing repetitive things try Pomodoro. I find time boxing helps prevent me losing focus, and lets me mix and match activities better so I don't waste a whole evening chasing a dead end.

You can supposedly use it to help measure how fast you're getting things done and so guide your estimates for the future, but I'm not organised enough to do that. In a contest like Pyweek though, it might help you decide what you can get done during the week sooner rather than later.

LOL. I knew it!
My roommate finds himself much better at working on things for long periods of time while slightly tipsy because it suppresses his ADD.
i enjoy brainstorming games ideas when tipsy, but drinking tends to impair my coding ability, since, when drinking, i don't ever want to stop.  ^_^

Well now, that just sounds like a different problem altogether =p
