I will be using PyGame, since it is something that I am already familiar with. So far I have started working on a general game engine, though I don't have a clear idea yet for what kind of game I want to attempt to make. I'll only have a few hours after work each day to work on something, so we'll have to see how much progress can be made before the deadline.

Since dark matter is the theme There are two options I can already think of. One being a platformer/excavation kind of game where you find dark matter or a 2D space "Shmup" where you prevent the dark matter from creating a black hole that destroys the galaxy.
Decisions decisions. By the time I get the main menu up and running will be the time I make the decision.

I don't think I can make it. I mean, I need time to make this, and in this moment of my life I feel guilty to dedicate time on game development.
I have an idea on what the game should look like, and I think I will make this game on the theme, but not in this pyweek, maybe I'll publish here once the challange is over.

Finally came up with a good Idea that I want to go with, now it's time to start. It's been like a year since I've last used Python and I've never used arcade before, so this will be... fun. Yeah, fun.
Down The Drain - Getting excited about the wrong theme

This is very much off topic, as the chosen theme is Dark Matter, but I collaged together some concept art in an attempt to get excited about the other theme options. By far, the one I was most excited about was Salmon Run, but Dark Matter also seemed promising.
Perhaps we can visit the world of drift-racing salmon vs. giant robot bears sometime in the future.

Realistically I have a very low chance of assembling anything useful here — I've never made a game in Python, or really any polished game beyond simple text-based exercises (Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard?), and I have less free time than almost any other time in my life.
Still, it's an exciting challenge, and more so because I've been missing the registration window on these for a few years now.
“Dark matter”, hmmm. I was thinking of trying to make a version of a game idea my 10-year-old thought up, which as conceived would have a theme to do with light (and therefore necessarily darkness). This might fall together serendipitously. We'll see.
