Ecliss Entertainment - Ethical Differences - Day 2

Posted by DOZO on 2012/05/07 07:12

So this morning I had the revelation that not only is it unnecessary to consider aesthetics at this stage, my game won't even fundamentally require a GUI. I can implement all the logic and playtest the game just using a text display. Prototyping couldn't get any easier.

I promptly wasted the rest of the day on other things, few of them productive. Hey, it's the weekend.

In the evening I buckled down and got some basics in place, though - creating an object hierarchy for fields, slots and parts, as well as reading the part data out of a CSV file and allowing machines to be built from them. None of the actual game is there yet, but this gets some of the dull coding over with. Tomorrow I will have to get more done, but after Ludum Dare, I'm not really feeling the time pressure.

Since I'll try to post a screenshot daily, behold this unimpressive one:

Udacious - Udacitris Day 1

Posted by illy0311 on 2012/05/07 06:49

I am new to programming. This is my first pyweek entry and my first time writing a game.

Code
You can download and track my progress here:  https://github.com/illy0311/Udacitris

(I am learning to use GitHub, IRC, BitBucket and the Python shell among others.)

Summary
The game is called Udacitris, which is made of the words Udacious + Tetris, paying respect to Udacity where I learned the very basics of Python.

The game is a Tetris clone where I plan to place a picture of a Scientist on each block of Tetris.

I am using pygame and the source code for Tetris from Invent with Python: http://inventwithpython.com/pygame/chapters/

My current agenda:

Block formation
- add image of (Mad) Scientist

Level up
- add badge which is the image of a (Mad) Scientist

Overall goal
- my goal in participating in pyweek is to learn python better
- gain familiarity with development tools, community, and best practices
- learn something about gaming
- play a lot of Tetris

Well, at the end of day 2 for me, I have a player and a ball in 2.5d, and the player can catch the ball. Tomorrow I will get baskets, more players, passing and shooting done. I hope.

Mechanism - Mechanism - Day 1

Posted by mespringfield on 2012/05/07 03:37

I'm working on a game called Mechanism. The player is cast in the role of a technician employed by FringeTech Laboratories. A new Telepresence Cybernetic Mechanism is about to be put through its paces in FringeTech's elaborate testing environment, but what starts as another routine day of guiding the TCM through a series of challenges begins to go horribly wrong...

After a day of coding, I have enough of the level editor working to create a simple test level.

Second conference today. Talked about the game more in depth and got a little code/art going. Once again fapping was a large conversation topic.
