Put simple, the butterfly effect is when one small change results in an exponentially more massive result. 


However, the theme does not need to be taken literally. You could always make a game about butterflies as an insect, for example.

This is the most common miss-interpretation. The 'butterfly effect' actually says, that the outcome of a complex system depends on the start configuration. Just a small change in that start configuration can produce a completely different result. So the system becomes unpredictable.
