You aren't by any chance using Lion are you? If so, try positioning the mouse outside of where the window will launch and then bring the mouse down into the window from the top. I had problems on my Lion machine with that but only intermittently.
Sorry I didn't mention it before, I kinda forgot about it... pyweek was a crazy week, lol.
