Diary Entries
Day one begins
So I don't really have any ideas yet...
One way makes me think of
One way makes me think of
- mars rovers
- river with a strong current
- a very unfriendly escalator system (maybe designing one)
- mazes
- terrorists bombing a train/plane
- falling off a tall building
- XKCD comic about the guy that falls sideways
Or maybe something with many paths and only one way leads to success, though the trip aspect doesn't make a lot of sense then.
Maybe a sidescroller would be doable but it seems difficult to get the difficulty right.
I'm not going to have much time this week due to work etc. so I need to pick something simple.

Another idea
I was thinking about alternative interpretations of the "one way" part of the theme. Perhaps the trip is a pilgrimage in which you learn "the way"
Which naturally led to this:
Too meta?

Slow progress
This pyweek is going really slowly as I'm working during the day and am pretty tired when I get home.
Right now I have a good idea of the game mechanics but haven't implemented much. Got the movement and camera sorted but I need to sort out the level system and collision handling, plus the actual level design beyond what I've scribbled down on a piece of paper.
Before that I think I'm going to find some nice graphics to replace my badly drawn triangles. The game is fairly abstract so I'm going to set in space and make the enemies angry shoes or something.
Hoping I will have enough time friday and saturday to get it to a playable state - if not I'll probably end up with an ok toy entry but no actual game...

Giving up
I just didn't have enough time to work on my entry this week.
But on the plus side, I got myself a new job involving python ^_^
The idea I came up with was just a few different mechanics
But on the plus side, I got myself a new job involving python ^_^
The idea I came up with was just a few different mechanics
- you can only go forward
- enemies don't have this limitation, but each type moves in its own predictable way
- all entities have a ghost form where ghosts interact with each other but not normal things
- big things eat small things
I think I could have made something interesting from this but it would have required a lot more time. Since it's currently quite badly produced and not very fun I'm not going to bother submitting it, but the code is on my github: https://github.com/mwehtam/One-Way-Trip
