Theme Combinations

Here are some theme combinations so can have all your bases covered. :)

Twinkle + Turmoil: Brownouts
Turmoil + Ticking: Bombs
Ticking + Twisted: Egg timers
Twisted + Tyger : 4 horsemen: The Game
Tyger + Twinkle: I dunno. Something with very short and brutal lives.

Twinkle + Turmoil + Ticking + Tyger + Twinkle: You are trying to set a world in turmoil by causing it's sun to run out of time.

And...
You invited a bunch of alien Tygers to invade(that didn't look like it was covered :P)
But that also would make it rather twisted (which is excluced) :)

Hi!

So, the theme will be exactly one of the 5 we have voted for? So, basically, we could already start at least maping on-paper designs for one game for each of the themes and may even do some on-paper-programming before the starting day? I am just curious about this especially in regard to the "don't start beforehand!" rule.

Good theme spectrum, but I had to look most of them up in my dictonary...
Deathworks: as long as you don't start *coding* or creating game assets beforehand, you can start designing your game now. I advise against it though, 'cos I did that last time and the game we'd designed fit the theme chosen really badly :)
Well, I had about 3 ideas before the themes were announced, and none of them really match any of the themes. Still, I wouldn't go so far as to discourage people from thinking in advance, and doing some paper design because:
  • Mostly people stretch pretty far to make a link between their game and the theme anyway,
  • You can use the same designs for things like title screens, menus, "game-over" displays no matter what the theme is,
  • It would be terrible to get a creative block just at the start of the contest. If you have *something* worked out on paper beforehand, it gives you a starting point.
You can always put aside good ideas that don't fit the chosen theme, and come back to them after the contest.

Hi!

Well, I guess I will go with making some considerations in advance. I should at least develop general ideas for the possible genres, since even that isn't determined yet. Right now, it seems as if I would go for a simple card game (should be easy to implement with wxPython and connecting its story and art to any theme should be possible), even though I am not a fan of games played with the mouse (^_^;; (but maybe I come up with a good idea of how to handle a card game without the mouse).

So, I guess it would be alright for me to think up general rules for a simple card game which I can then implement in Python during that week.
