Theme Ideas

I'm finding the themes a little harder to come up with ideas for this time than last time. Maybe it's because they are already taken from a game, so it isn't innovative just to bung them back into a different game.

However, I've just managed to modify one idea from my ideas wiki as a candidate for one of the themes. It looks like working in the theme will improve the game even more.

This is the beauty of an ideas wiki - write down random project ideas that pop into your head (plus ideas for Pyweek games whose theme wasn't chosen), cross-reference them, go back and elaborate on them sometimes, and occasionally you'll find one has grown into a ripe fruit, ready for plucking.

I disagree with your premise, but that's just me. I don't see how the fact that "negotiator", "mr fixit" or "mysterious stranger" came from a game makes much of a difference. Though I can see how you could be blocked by only thinking of how they were used in the game. I've certainly been blocked by themes that everyone else seemed to be going wild with before, so I feel your pain :(

I love your ideas wiki thing. Occasionally I write down my ideas that I think are cool but dont want to actually work on yet, but usually I forget where, or that they even exist somewhere.. And many of the good ones I don't write down, and they are lost forever.

Hopefully you aren't stuck with only a workable plan for a theme that doesn't win. Maybe there are some more gems in that wiki of yours?
