Other Ideas?

Post if you had any other ideas for this theme. What we went for was a platformer were you eventually end up controlling 9 copies of yourself, unfortunately we had to skip a few levels so it jumps from like 5 copies to 9. This was my partners ideas and kudos to him for all the storyline, he's so modest but I think its great.

My idea was to do an arcade style game where you control a rocket that has to navigate through an asteroid field, but with 9 accelerators attached. You effectively have 9 lives because whenever you hit an asteroid, 1 of the accelerators would have blown up. The interesting mechanic though is that you go faster with more accelerators, so you can get more points faster if you hold on to your accelerators and I thought that to make things more interesting you could sacrifice one accelerator to get an invunerable boost for a limited time.

A couple of other ideas that were competing for space in my brain for the first couple of days:

* A set of recursively nested puzzles of various kinds based on 3x3 grids. When you solved a puzzle at one level, the whole puzzle would become a playing piece that you could use at the next level up.

* Something involving programming a computing device based on 9-bit words, with some ridiculous limitation such as 9 words of RAM and 9 word of ROM. There was going to be a backstory full of Dilbert-like characters to explain why you had to deal with such a screwy architecture.
