Operation: Stalwart Redemption - Week One: Py-Type
Operation: Stalwart RedemptionWeek One: Py-Type
True to my word, I'm going to make a game over the course of the coming week. I'm well and truly tired of making platforming games, so I'm making a shmup.
My game is titled "Py-Type" and is inspired by (As I'm sure those who've heard of it can guess) the R-Type series. It will be a side-scrolling shooter with complex terrain.
The game will feature multiple weapons (Well, a few) as well as a few different player ships. It will also have a moderate variety of baddies. The real key here is the fact that the levels will be procedurally created, complete with big "Wall of bad stuff" bosses that will be assembled out of individual parts.
The game will use pixel art that will be presented in a semi-retro pixelated style that I will create by rendering the game at half-size and then scaling it up to full size when it is drawn to the screen.
I will create the graphics using The GIMP, and the sound using as3sfxr (Link for those who haven't used it; it's very nice!). If I have time, I may create music using LMMS.
I'll try to have something together by tomorrow, but I'm not sure whether I'll be making daily posts about it, or if I'll keep it on my personal blog. If no one minds, I think I'll make daily posts about these. (Richard, I read your comment on my previous post; If you'd like to weigh in I'd appreciate it ^_^)

Right now however, that would be a lonely competition since you'd be competing in a different class than the other three entries.
Yes, but I like the (Mostly imagined) heroism in making a game every week for two months.
That's what Operation: Stalwart Redemption is about. Not just making games: Testing my ability to finish projects one after another.
I do hope you understand :)
