PyWeek - mmorts - feedback

It's pretty cool to see an online game. The mouse/keyboard hybrid controls were pretty
awkward though, and the game seemed to have some sort of strange almost realtime movement
model where you could try to move around whenever you liked but you couldn't do that unless a
certain time had passed, which just made it hard to move around. The game also had some network
problems early on. Maybe with some deeper gameplay and refining of the controls, this could be
a pretty cool game.

quite good for me

Impressive for a week, but twisted can be a very serious pain to install sometimes. I also got stuck between bugs several times and had to restart.

Very ambitious. Graphics are decent, and music is nice. I've added production points as it's client-server. Unfortunately your main server is either down or unreachable, so I was presented with a blank screen initially.

The game itself is a bit clunky - moving is a bit odd and it's not very clear when you're fighting or not.

Looks big, but there's little to no feedback given to the player on how they're doing. I can't tell if I'm defeating enemies or they're just suicide-bombing me; also whether or not I'm levelling up and finishing the game, or focussing my attention on the wrong aspects. The movement is quite glitchy, and I couldn't get the chat function to work.

the game has potential, but at the moment it needs more polishing.

Couldnt get the game to work. Just got a black screen and music.

Is it really finished?
How could one player win the game?

It looks quite complete, but the client is very glitchy, I wasn't sure where the avatar was at any time and it wasn't very clear if and how it was attacking or being attacked.

Crashed on startup. Python 2.5 / Pygame 1.7.1 / Windows XP.

OK, I got it running, after installing a lot of dependencies. I didn't know how much life I had,
or what exactly was going on in the inventory menu. Things just seemed to move around when I
clicked on them. The instructions were not detailed enough to explain how to use in the
inventory screen in a useful way. I think I died, since I started back at the beginning, and
that's when I quit. The graphics were decent.

nice job :)

Wow, a decent MMORPG in a week, very impressive entry.

Needs a bit more polishing.

A massively multiplayer online roleplaying game? I didn't see anybody else online.

An OK diablo clone, though. Nice music.

Could develop into something interesting, but not quite there yet -- doesn't seem to be anything to do besides killing swarms of monsters.

I tried the game late in the judging period and there wasn't anyone online. Cool to play an isometric mmorpg, but beyond the perspective, I didn't really see anything new.
The way the screen shakes a bit when you walk into an enemy is a little jarring.
'click here to chat' didn't work for me. The inventory screen is confusing. And you lose absolutely everything and go to level 0 when you die?!

mmorts team member 1 - "Last time we did a simple pong game. That was to easy, lets do something
harder and cooler this time" mmorts team member 2 - "Ive heard about the game World of Warcraft,
it is said to be the #1 cool game in town AND its really hard to make" mmorts team member 1 - "Ok,
lets do our own MMORPG!" :-)

this isn't really an mmorpg.. where is the public server? (i mean, i doesnt work)
anyway, it is not playable enough, and network game is a nice gimmick but doesn't just do it without a good game

Couldn't connect to server (just got a blank window), ran local game. Controls were odd - 90 degrees off what I'd expect from an ISO game. Didn't really play it much, didn't grab me.

3 3 3

wow. I'm amazed you made a working mmo in only a week. Besides that fact the battles are kinda bland. Its still cool to see such a hard project pulled off in only a week. good job!

I could not login to internet server. Moving is stressfully and appearing enemies from nowhere with "who moves attacks" combat system make game chaotic.

I really wish there were a category for "OMG YOU MADE A MMO IN A WEEK", but there isn't. Of the categories that exist, this game doesn't really push any of them. The graphics aren't that good, and the bounce-back effect hurts production; the game is a complete rip-off of the 1000's of games like this (feels a lot like crossfire); and it's not very fun yet. Not that I'm harping on the game, these sorts of games don't have good gameplay or work very well at the start; many of these games don't succeed on those fronts even when they are completed :) You still made an mmo in a week, so no matter how your scores come out, many many congratulations on that.

not much of a game (yet?). there is not a lot to do and the little is not polished - like moving
around being not smooth and the fightes aren't very spectacular. great job putting together
an mmo engine, but the game came short.

Very cool game although lacking content...But hwy you made a MMORTS, you rule...

Very nice soundtrack, not-so-bad graphics. Unfortunately even local servers take too long to answer to player input. =(

Ran at a snail's pace. Might have been working incorrectly?
