Quite nice game, altough it becames boring eventually

4 2 2

Hehe, really fun and addicting game. How about an online highscore record?

2 2 1

Gameplay is not very rich and graphics are boring... the implementation seems solid (does what I think it is supposed to do), animations are smooth and sounds are simple but nice.

3 3 3

your other block game was more fun. Should have made it less hard :)

3 4 3

* As I play I have an urge to knock those nasty fish.. they are very irritating :) Fun game,
altough it is a bit hard not to jump to the start of the next block instead of the water. Kepp
going!

3 3 2

I just couldn't catch a fish :(
Minimalistic works, the gameplay was reasonable, it was just another arcade about a block :P

2 2 3

How to survive? I have to jump in the water for food, but that is killing me.

4 3 3

Awesome retro game!

3 3 4

Nice jumping sound! But a bit difficult, if you ask me.

3 3 3

Interesting game concept. It took a while to get over the feeling that it was suicide jumping
into the water for fish!

2 2 2

kind of cute retro game

3 2 2

Kinda addictive.

1 2 3

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't manage to catch a single fish... Sorry.

3 3 3

Fun game! It wasn't clear at first how to eat the fish without dying, and then I realized that I wouldn't die if I ate them but fell off the screen. The game play is fun, and I like the physics of how the player works on platforms. He feels just a little sluggish, and it might be nice if he was more fun to move. Overall though, well done game!

While the game met your specifications, I found that the challenge and variety of the game was
lacking. Graphics, sound and gameplay were functional at there current level however. I also
do no see the relevance of the game to the theme of pyweek 4.

1 1 1 yes

It's broken. :-( $ python run_game.py File
"/Users/xxx/pyweek-4-finals/abg2-rotb/abg2-rotb/lib/main.py", line 371, in __init__
self.image=self.font.render(self.text,0,self.color) pygame.error

3 3 3

fun and fast-paced, what more could I want?

4 3 4

The jumping down to catch fish is an interesting mechanic. Balancing that with jumping on the logs is pretty neat. The visual style is simple but nice.

2 2 2

add some music. gameplay is boring.

2 3 2

I had no problems running this game, nice with a game with only pygame as its dependency. And
nice with a py2exed version :) Its hard to see your time (I didn't even know it was a timer before
you read about it in one of your news items. Maybe you could add a normal timer or (better) an
explanation/hint somewhere?

1 3 2

minimalistic is good, especially for pyweek, but this game is too minimalistic in the term of gameplay. you could make a better game with the same graphics, if you designed a more rewarding game.

2 2 3

It seemed the only way to catch fish was to die while doing so. I thought the graphics were pretty consistant.
Otherwise it wasn't very entertaining.

3 3 4

Quite appropriately blocky.

2 2 1

It works well, no bugs that I can detect, but unfortunately not enough seems to happen to keep my
interest. It's also quite hard! :) The minimalist graphics bother me less than the lack of
variety in the game play, though perhaps if I'd been better I would see more different things
happen. I also am somewhat confused why the red bar starts decreasing and I then need to jump off
to catch a fish. The readme explains I need to do this, but the in-game instructions themselves
are rather vague about this. Theme-wise "the only way is up" is only vaguely related to the game
itself and is not central to the game play.

2 2 2

nice colors :) a bit too simple.

2 3 2

The block theme is cool. I like the physics of the game. Great effort.

3 4 2

Love the retro stylings, and the Vib Ribbon-esque abstract score display. :)

3 3 3

It's an ok game. An easier beginning would be good, plus some more variety. On the plus side the
gameplay feels fluid, and the controls respond well. The graphics are stylish in their own
way, but not mind-blowing. Perhaps a short day/night cycle with varying colors would freshen
it up?

4 4 3

Nice simple game. A little confusing but was definitely fun playing it :) I liked the look of the
fish.

3 3 2

It doesn't feel right to jump into the water and live or die depending on if you catch a fish.

2 2 3

Honestly, I was a bit confused. I thought i was supposed to "eat" the fish, but in order to do so I had to fall (and die) which I understood to be a bad thing.
Looks like the start of a good game, but needs more.

2 3 2

Uh.. kind of blocky. Trying to catch the fish was pretty much impossible (particularly the yellow fish). It kind of reminded me of a side scrolling Frogger without the music. I actually like the block images, but I just wish there was more substance.

3 2 2

Cute. Somewhat fun. Could not figure out how to get the fish.

2 3 4

The game was a bit too difficult for me. Unfortunately, I had no time to play this game over hours but just for some few minutes, so who knows if it would have became easier over time - But I have to admit that the graphics were not bad and had their own neat style ;o)

3 2 4

Nice idea but it seems a little bit hard to me. Graphics and Block-theme fit nicely together.. ;)

3 2 3

Neat idea, good use of theme.
Game got repetitive quickly, and I found it difficult to hit/eat the fish.
Also, I found it difficult to relate to a yellowish square.

3 3 3

the looks are consistent and i like the minimalistic design. jumping around feels well
modeled. i'm missing more challenges, something that would make the jumping less linear,
like the fish-challenge but more/different

3 3 3

Simple graphics + simple gameplay = simple but fun game. I liked the sounds you used, but the gameplay still feels a bit too repetitive. The fish add innovation, but it feels weird to have to fall off the screen to get them.

2 3 2

Physics could have been improved, gameplay was dull but the minimalistic design can be an interesting concept.

A definetly good attempt, specially considering you're new to programming.

2 2 2

I don't really get the whole point. It's a bit confusing that you have to jump into the water.
Some more graphics detail would have been nice.

3 2 3

The falling to catch the fish gameplay was pretty strange, and took a little bit to figure out. It would have been more interesting if there were levels with some variety.

2 2 3

Quite nicely implemented as far as it goes, but it's rather repetitive. It's not clear what the
objective is -- catch a certain number of fish? Survive until the funky counter thing at the top
reaches some value? Or does it just keep going forever?

It appears that if you jump into the water and catch a fish, you're okay, but if you miss it, you
drown. That doesn't seem very logical.

3 3 2

Very nice game, considering it only uses pygame.draw. I like the cool way the time ticks, using visual representations. And the yellow fish is a bit challenging...
What it lacks is maybe a bit more diversity (sharks with lasers on their head? :)). Some technical stuff - when you jump out of the screen on the RIGHT side (You are too fast...) you die too...Scrolling faster over time could have added challenge. Also when "catching" fish you still drown, and not jump up, which is logically gray...

You get special marks for a creative way of interpreting the theme.

3 4 3

This seems like it could have a lot of promise, but I found myself fighting the controls for the
first part of the game, and then wondering if I was winning or losing for the rest of the game.
But, I must say I'm looking forward to seeing more of the plucky block.

2 2 3

I like the story on this one.

2 2 2

Firstly; what do the blocks in the top-middle mean? They seem to have no relation on anything.

It's alright. Had a few deaths I'm not sure how I could avoid by those tall logs, and I'm yet to see more than one extra-life fish in a game.

3 2 4

Nice little game :)<br>
It turned out much better than I thought when looking at the first screens.

2 2 2

Boring and hard :)

3 4 3

You've clearly put some effort into the visual design of the game, and the sound effects help.
Unfortunately it's a really hard game, and a little monotonous.

5 2 4

Very nice nice graphics, a game I would want to come back to.
