Where's the steam?

This was fun, but then I grew up with Space Invaders. Can't really give you much for innovation, or for production (pixels, after all) but this was fun.

The retro feel is kind of amusing, but feels more like laziness without an advancement in terms of gameplay.

Well done, if completely and utterly unoriginal. - Factory

Could be a great space shooter if the baddies didn't blast away *quite* so much.

2 2 1

The good old shooter game. The sound effects are ok but I missed the graphics very much. One life is very slim, one shot and I'm dead.

2 1 1

Well.. did not really fit into the theme :)

3 1 1

Uhh... where's the steam?

2 1 1

The game is a bit too hard and too simple, and the use of the steam theme is quite arbitrary. A nice try, but not much more.

3 3 2

Cool game.

2 2 1

The retro shoot'em'up feel was nice.

3 2 3

Quite a nice little game. Very retro!

4 2 2

Fun game but clearly under developed!

2 3 2

Hard! Cool retro theme :)

3 2 1

I love shmup's.

3 2 2

well-known concept. Too bad it has some (control) flaws though, e.g. sometimes you can't move and shoot at the same time...

2 2 1

umm..

3 3 1

fun, simple. but .. uhh steam?

2 2 1

From the comments, it seems this is the entrants first game, and it's not bad for a first game.

Pace was too fast, controls got stuck sometimes (apparently when pressing left before releasing right, though I never could survive long enough to verify). And, um, graphics weren't great.

Well, basically, there are two things a shooter needs to get right: movement and collision, and neither of those are quite right. You already know about the movement bug (I suggest fixing this with appropriate use of pygame.key.get_pressed())

On the collision side, you are just causing the shots to collide with the box enclosing the player ship, which is the easy and unfair way of doing this.

2 1 1

And old idea that has been implemented too many times already.

5 2 1

Surprisingly fun. Unfortunately it's barely themed, low in innovation and only one of each object in the game.

2 1 1

obviously smaller than most games. ok production for a 1975 arcade. which is ok. sometimes,
too many bullets. btw, disqualification for not following theme?

3 2 2

I thought all digital ships were made of pixels? Oh well... The game is a very basic shoot 'em up (shmup) game. There is only one type of enemy and one type of gun. You need to collect coal or something from destroyed ships to keep you flying though. What makes this difficult is the buggy controls and the fact that the enemies aren't very predictable in how they shoot. This game could be quite fun with some tweaking I think.

Wow. Actually one of the better entries. Keeping things as simple as possible is a good idea
sometimes. I like your tie to the theme in the readme. The movement bug is anoying, but you knew
that already.

4 2 2

I don't know why, but I found it insanely fun.

4 2 1

i got a kick out of this one.

3 1 1

Fun as it stands, but nothing to do with the title, and certainly not a game to come back to.

1 1 1

Poor graphics.

4 2 3

Retro cool!

This game is really fun! None of those menus or that sort of garbage. Jump right right into the game.

Perfectly matched sounds for the retro atari stylings.

So good. My top score is 4600. But I'm sure to get higher as I play more later.
