Day 1 - Brainstorming and Art
...or do I?
Turns out the theme I was rooting for actually won the vote, and "Nightfall" opens the door to a lot of possibilities. For me though, it didn't click as something dark or scary. It hit different. Nostalgic. Cozy. The kind of feeling you get walking home when the streetlights are just starting to turn on.
I'm no artist, so I can't really show you what my brain pictured in that first second, but I think I can pull something together with the right free resources.
Here's the pitch: a town (or maybe a factory, still deciding) where two friends need to get home before night fully sets in. The core mechanic is cooperative puzzles. Nothing crazy, but nothing mindless either. Think "It Takes Two" but tiny, scrappy, and built in a week.
I also want to use this jam as an excuse to properly test repod, a lightweight multiplayer networking library I've been building for Python games. So yeah, there's a personal stake here too.
I'm not going to pretend I'll finish it. But I want to try, and I want it to have heart.
Here are the assets I'm eyeing so far:
Simple. That's the goal.
This has to be quick, but it has to mean something. owo
