Here's what I came up with yesterday.
A canoe floating along the river. I'm planning to make it a mix of dodging obstacles with the keyboard, and shooting at incoming baddies with the mouse. The canoe moves left and right so far and the mouse pointer has a block attached to it.Hopefully I can finish work quickly today and get back on it.
The river and sky are just a couple of pygame rectangles. The canoe is a png sprite made in paint.net

Now with a crocodile, crosshair and bullets. No collisions yet..
