PyWeek 17 Themes

Hi all, in this post I'll try to give some idea of what the themes might mean. They're all titles of films.

As always, PyWeek is about your interpretation of the theme, however loosely.
  1. 12 Monkeys
The film has themes of post-apolcolyptic society, time travel, insanity and animal rights. You may also just have 12 monkeys in your game.
  2. The Fifth Element
The Fifth Element was not a "big theme movie", though the film's theme was an important one: "What's the use of saving life when you see what you do with it?" It has flying cars in a futuristic city, and an emphasis on fashion and art design.
The Aristotlean concept of four elements say that everything is composed of earth, air, fire and water. Many additional elements were proposed, though aether was very popular.
  3. The Guild
This is a web series which
revolves around the lives of online guild, The Knights of Good, who play countless hours of an MMORPG called "The Game". The story focuses on Codex, the guild's Priestess, who attempts to lead a normal life after one of her guild-mates, Warlock Zaboo, shows up on her doorstep.
A guild is is an association of artisans or merchants who control the practice of their craft in a particular town. The concept of guilds has often been extended in fiction to include guilds or thieves or assassins.
  4. Moon
The film is about Sam Bell, a man who experiences a personal crisis as he nears the end of a three-year solitary stint mining helium-3 on the far side of the Earth's moon. There are themes of sanity, corporations going too far, isolation and robots. And the moon.
  5. Castle In The Sky
Humanity used to live in floating castles in the sky but now live on the ground. The film has themes of flying machines, camaraderie, sky pirates, lost cities and greed. Oh, and amulets apparently made of "aetherium".
I hope this helps warm up the brain juices :)
