The reigster new account link is gone

I had a friend interested in participating, but the link to create a new account is missing or cleverly hidden. I got lucky and guessed the URL (http://pyweek.org/register/) but this might be confusing to new potential participants. Or it may be that both my friend and I are not very observant, which is entirely possible.

I don't think it appears until a month before the challenge... Not sure why.

Registration for new users is closed outside of one month of the challenge. I found the bulk of people registering outside of that time didn't come back for the challenge. This makes participation stats less good.

Shouldn't creating new entries be locked instead of creating an account?

I think that repeat offenders are less likely to create an entry that amounts to nothing. Mostly
