Using the SVN head is an option if you want something fresher than 1.1.4.
As for simple examples you could look at some of the PyWeek entries. Of course they always end up a bit disorganized, but they tend to be to the point. Nobody writes complicated frameworks in a week. (Well, some do, but then they don't write a game.) I think all my previous games use Pyglet except for The Roar and I can almost recommend them as examples :).
