I see that we've already been awarded an award. Rather generously, in my opinion. In an effort to blend in with the locals I feel I'd better send a counter-award to our benefactor. Is this how the greasy pole works around these parts?
I wouldn't feel under any obligation. Some people find the awards system apparently extremely exciting and will give out awards for anything that seems worthy of note, including, as you've seen, before the contest has started. Some people use it only to highlight finished entries which were particularly remarkable, making use of the fact that an award can be given to several entries and automatically comes with an index of games which have received it. Some people don't interact with the awards system at all, and that's absolutely fine too.
