were you able to train your padwan effectively?

Hi there,

I'd like to know if you people had any luck training your padwan in gilvsdevil enough to beat all 5 enemies.

If you succeeded, what where your time records? What was your training strategy?

If you did not succeed, which enemies could you beat and which enemies couldn't you defeat?

If you had trouble running the game, did you try the version with Windows issues fixed?

I'd love to get some feedback on this. The game is a bit unusual and we really don't know if the result is playable and fun enough, you certainly need to play a little while to get a sense of where the game is going, if you just try to fight your padwan, you'll miss the point.

Would you like to see an online padwan competition after PyWeek? :)

Cheers,

I found the controls a bit weird, and mostly unusable. It is not that I didn't get it (I had played fight games and it was quite standard); but blocking never seemed to work (did not get feedback, and it seemed not to block continously), and every action seemed to had a long delay between pressing the key and getting the action done. It also seemed like the action didn't complete if I released the action key too soon, so this made my character hard to control.

So, I got into my first training round and the padawan kicked my ass, untrained, while I struggled with the controls. Then I went to see how the fights against other opponents worked and... he beat them all, with just that one lousy training round (I must have raised his self-esteem! =P). One of the opponents in the middle I had to fight twice, but that was it.

I find the concept very interesting, but couldn't have much fun with it for those UI problems I mentioned.

If you have the time to download the version linked in the first message your controls should be more responsive. There was a change in the version in the torrent which broke the way the keys were handled before :(, which wasn't really great, but functional. The linked version has those changes reverted/fixed.

By the way, letting the padwan beat you up is one way to train him :)

Thanks for the feedback.
