Rhythm Input

Is is expected that the rhythm games use a very few keys for the input? or do you guys think its' a good idea to make use of the whole keyboard? I was actually thinking about using up the whole keyboard (i.e, randomly generating the keys to be pressed by the user) Do you think music is important for a rhythm game? i was collecting some music for the game but nothing really impressed me.

I would at least expect that you will use music in a rythm game. It makes more fun to play if you get the feeling that you are in "harmony" with the background music while torturing your keyboard.

Few keys are ok, but the whole keyboard? Well, THIS sounds interesting and challenging [and could be a new generation of "typing trainer"] ;)
meh, just devide the keyboard into a few "regions" and make the user mash a region rather than a singe xey . . . :p
Gotta agree with bjorn on this one. That's always been what I envisioned in PC-specific rhythm game, and it makes the most sense. Keyboard keys are much smaller than the buttons for most proprietary rhythm game controllers.
I was actually thinking along the lines of what Zahmekoses has said... This could be like a typing tutor kinda thing. This would require the user to know typing though. I guess ill' limit the keys and have an option to use the whole keyboard as well. Thanks for your inputs guys..
