Too simple for interesting gameplay

Good Sammy pic.

A good start. Moving the mouse and moving the squirrel so fast is somewhat unexpected, but could be made to work with more effort.

The graphics are neat and it's easy to see what is what, except that the balloons or whatever the squirrel is holding are rather overly minimalistic. No sounds.

Unfortunately when the game is over, the game is over. You're gone. No sense of accomplishment. No high score.

The multiple scrolling backgrounds look nice.

2 2 3

Funny graphics but the gameplay is a bit flat.

2 1 2

+ Nice scrolling effect when rising, and the color change. - There is no goal of the game (as far
as I could tell) - if you are unlucky, you spawn next to a bird and die.

I hoped for more from the screenshot, the drawing is pretty funny :)

2 3 3

You're right, it's rough.

2 2 1

Well, the same four birds kept moving back and forth at the same speed. It all seemed pretty easy to me, since I could dodge them the same way every time. After several cycles of doing the same thing, I got bored.

2 2 2

ok, once I realized how to play it correctly...

1 1 2

Quite a lot of white speckles about when you get up high. Also the birds flying backwards is a bit odd. Graphics seem to clash a bit with each other

3 3 3

I liked the style of the graphics. A big downer for me was the abruptness of the game just dumping you out in the cold after a game over.

1 3 4

You should pygame.transform.flip the birds!

2 1 2

It would of been nice to have something more creative.

2 1 1

Controls feel awkward, it'd probably be better if you could click to accelerate. Not bad for the first time using pygame, though.

2 2 2

cute graphics - I would have put the "move" command on the mouse button.

1 2 2

Readme doesn't really explain the game very well, nor mention the use of the mouse to move the balloon guy.

3 2 1

I like the minimalist style. You can hide your character in the corner and just scroll up forever. This game sorta reminds me of a flash game where you start at a bus stop and fly up until you reach an island

2 2 2

Like you said in the Readme.txt, the game is rough. Still, I think it's a good start for someone new to Pygame -- you did a good job with the collision detection of the balloons, and moving them all around with Sammy following the mouse. Figuring out how to do all of that with Python and Pygame is an achievement in and of itself. A good next step might be to get the bird sprites to flip horizontally as they change direction, and then eventually do an animation for the birds flapping their wings. If you had them fly straight across (without bouncing), and then increased them in speed and frequency, you could have a fun game on your hands.
Anyways, keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing any more entries you might do in the future!

2 1 1

You could at least had made the picture of the bird turn around when they're going left. ;-/

2 2 2

the idea of drawing by hand the graphics is nice... but the game needs to be polished A LOT!

2 1 2

cute.

2 3 3

I couldn't seem to move off the left-hand side of the window.

2 2 2

I like the parallax background, and the game is somewhat fun to play on the first time. It does however lack lasting appeal, and the production isn't very polished. If you want to use transparent graphics like this, you could at least lose the white matte. It would also be nice if one bird could only destroy one balloon at a time, and some sort of scoring would be an easy addition.

3 2 1

Great idea, just needed more polish.

2 2 2

I liked the clouds. I'm not really sure what you're supposed to do.

3 2 2

not much of a game but you got parallax scrolling and a funny squirrel

2 2 2

backwards flying birds!

3 2 3

Innovative game. Could definitely use some menus etc.? Some text to the screen would have been good. Minimum win/loose screens would have changed the face of the game.

3 2 3

Was a bit fun to play. Somewhere after the top (it got really dark) the collision detection was turned off... so I was able to just elevate my way to further squirrel-like destinies, without any worries about my balloons ;o)

2 1 2

Yes, it's *very* rough, although quite good for a first game with pygame.

3 3 4

Clever. Love the squirrel.

1 1 2

Didn't feel like a finished game, not much fun, player sometimes collide with birds in the beginning without the chance to do anything, no title screen, game simply shuts down when dieing instead of letting you try again.

1 1 1

Terrible game in every respect, but obviously it was a learning project, so I hope you guys learned from it.

4 3 2

Lol I liked this game...Could have been prettier, but nice job making the clouds scroll in varying speeds...Also very nice that it goes darker, but then there is only darkness to the "winners"...At least a heaven with some chix could have been nice :)

1 2 1

no music. nothing on the game. not fun. :-(
But keep working, next time would be much better!

2 1 2

I hope to see improvements on your pygame skills in the next pyweek. =)

1 2 1

Boring. ;)
